The doyen of sports writers, Roy Masters, has now spoken. And he has confirmed my predictions. Gilty has fudged his numbers with massive contra and money from Telstra for Marvel Stadium.

The $642M per year is a lie. The actual amount is $550M. Still a good amount so congratulations to Gilty and all the fumble followers here for that. (Go crazy with ya rattles and red cordials kids lololol).

But Remember this kicks in in 2025. Roy confirms the NRL currently gets $450M a year. Almost on parity in aggregate and well in front per hour of content in the current deal. For 3 years RL will be behind by $100M. But they will start re-negotiating early and recover this amount well before the fumbling deal finishes in 2031.

Bottom line: The AFL has done better than expected. But due to the long 9 year term of the current AFL deals the NRL has plenty of room to make up the difference and pull ahead.

Thanks to Roy for his expert analysis. I now expect amateur mug punter fumbling fans here will go nuts. I wait in anticipation lololololol!!!!!!!!

Poor 'ol Hunter has been on the fumbling kool aid for years. He doesn't know anyone on the inside of the negotiations. Whereas Roy of course knows everyone. When the new deal starts the AFL will get $100M more in cash per year. Once the NRL gets a new deal they will easily catch up in the last 4/5 years of the fumbling deal.

Trust in Roy!!!!

From Roy's article:

Others believe the annual gap with AFL is $170m, not $100m, if contra is removed from both deals. The AFL mega payment further incited the critics of ARL Commission boss Peter V’landys, who renewed the Foxtel deal in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, rather than wait until this year when the original contract expired.

The AFL extended their rights for just two years. V’landys awarded Foxtel a seven-year extension until 2027, believed to be for an annual payment of $300m.

That's true pal. It's because the respective deals aren't aligned. The fumblers have taken a big punt signing on till 2031. The last 4 or 5 years may look very poor by then. Whilst the NRL will most certainly get back to parity with the next deal. And then potentially pull ahead in the last few years of the fumbling deal.

well years 2027 to 2031 are quite along time away

$100mill to 150mill annually with inflation is not much considering
NRL will go to the table with an 18th team and 9th game. (in a few years from now)

Not a chance of a relocation…..none
And tassie were fairly recently considering rejoining the vfl as a stepping stone to the big league.
They shouldn't. Like I said, it nearly destroyed the game before. They are NOT to go down that path. It would be suicide.

It will be relocation - or no Tassie team in the AFL. The only other chance would be a 20th license.
Well they can’t have a 20th team without a 19th…and they will have both…the 20th will follow, a question of where and when?
Well much like the Suns and the Giants they would have to come in within a year of each other or the other 18 clubs will say "No". The only place I can see it coming from is Canberra and as it is part of the Giant umbrella right now that's not going to happen any time soon. It certainly won't be the NT.

What would an old RL hack like Roy know? I’ll trust Caro thanks. It’s an extraordinary amount of $$$ for the AFL with bids from every major network, that you Tezza suggested where all myth. Well done… you look really silly now. And where is that truthbomber hiding since this deal was announced? lol

Like the last deal and the deal before that… you leaguies are always left looking bitter and silly with your ridiculous suggestions and analysis. Next time Number 2. Maybe… but highly unlikely.

AFL leading the way obviously - most sought after and valuable sporting product in the country. Is it because of its spread across the country, the broad demographic it appeals to, the superior product? So many factors.

How amazing that 9 through in a massive bid - everyone wanted it - everyone!!!!! Good on Gil in not just taking the highest bidder - but having the foresight to look after the best interests of the game.

Like the old saying goes paraphrased - those who do - do - those who don't - talk - kind of sums up Gil and V'Landy's. Gil gets it done - slow and steady - V'Landy's is more your snake oil salesman - has a few wins on the board and I have liked him previously - but when it comes to it - he is a sprinter whereas Gil is in for the long game.

guys the deal is 5 years pass the NRL's.. (of course it was going to be bigger)

do we know how much happens in 5 years of LIFE>

be like the NRL locking in a deal to 2040 at $730mill per year.

where in fact you would look in the year 2033 and say that is a bargain
