guys the deal is 5 years pass the NRL's.. (of course it was going to be bigger)
its 4 years not 5. The NRL deal is inclusive of 2027, the AFL deal is inclusive of 2031.

And given the NRLs historical inability to negotiate anything properly, I wouldnt count any chickens yet.

true to that, But we keep getting counts on current NRL deal to 2027 to the AFL deal of 2031
of course there would be such a difference.

( i am not saying NRL will eclipse this figure)

i am pointing to the fact it is a big time difference between deals
which no one seems to be mentioning

on WEB socials etc

in the meantime, the AFL gets a boost next year to 473m a year, and the same the year after before leaping to 643m for the following 3 - we're talking a 700m + gap here - and thats without the additional revenue the AFL already gets over the NRL at non broadcast revenue

Would depend where the 18tj team is. Needs to be a Perth. I wouldn’t be hanging my hopes on an 18th team happening when you think or when it should, occur

Interesting. Can’t say I’ve ever really taken much notice of the BVOD figures. Can now see why 7 were so keen for games on 7Plus.

yeah def,

Ch9 for NRL been ratings around 40k to 50k on AVG per ch9 game
it has real potential to grow, especial 7 Plus.

NRL going to 18 Freddy,

It is a certainty.

FOX wants 18 teams they do not like the bye
ch9 wants 18 teams they do not like the bye
clubs want 18 teams they do not like the bye.

NRL wants 18 teams as it gives them 9 games per week and extra coin

The 17th team was always going to be just a stepping stone for an 18th. A 17th doesn't really add much more than a potential increase in supporter base. An 18th team adds an extra game and all that goes with it.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

I hear you - it will happen but not so sure as to when. They are very gun shy of risk generally hence it took so long to get the 17th team. Will it be there by 2027 ???? I would put my house on it - I wouldn’t put my house for 2028, 2029, 2030 either. Could happen but history is the best predictor of future behsviour so will reserve judgement.

it took so long for a 17th freddy becuase once you say yes we are doing a 17th team, you are already looking at an 18th team with the next few years.
NRL want to make sure the foundations were there for team 17 and 18

CEO stated NRL will go to tender and have clubs who want to join the NRL as the 18th team most likely next year.

the process will be exactly the same as how the 17th team was inducted..

at the moment, there is 5 Bid teams
