You're correct truthbomber (for once) mentioning the capacity of the ground. So I am guessing it did sell out back then in 1999 which a pretty big crowd.

If that is the case then why does it struggle to sell out these days with only 82,500 capacity.

It seems like Rugby League is going backwards in popularity, which clearly it is
im never wrong fumbler & don't you forget it

as for your 2nd dumb bum effort
the NRL GF has never struggled to sellout out its GF .......... ever

NRL 2022
highest attendances since 2014

aflol 2022
lowest attendances since 1998

whos going backward in popularity petey you gibbering halfwit ?

Big big backward step for Rugby league
110000 down to 82500, something very wrong, NRL is in struggle street .
AFL Grand final always outsells and out rates the other sport.
Example :

https://thewest.com.au/sport/afl/afl-gr ... 881703805z

On these figures I conclude :

Two thirds of Australia have an interest in AFL vs one third for NRL.
A substantial change from the old fifty fifty .
I didn't want a crap name anymore !

league is a rectangle sport , an oval is no good for our sport so it was reconfigured
never failed to sell out the NRL GF ... ever

& if 2/3 of australians are interested in the fumbles n bumbles GF
why is it often the 5th biggest annual event in australia ?

behind 4 RL games

I don't think it has ever been 50/50. Aussie Rules is in every state and interest goes well into NSW at the Boarders. South East QLD also has a strong aussie Rules presence across QLD - especially the SEQ and North QLD. Rugby League just does not have this level of interest outside its heartland although has built a good niche market in Melbourne I think - but that is all it is. People may argue and I suspect there will be deflection, but these are facts. Don't get me wrong, RL still King in Sydney and most of NSW (not all) and QLD is Rl easily - just that the NRL would love the interest Aussie Rules has in its non-traditional states

Australian rules has a greater presence all over Australia than Rugby league does.
Rugby league is more popular in some areas, by a long way in a few, but overall…nah…
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

What about the Lions Richmond game selling out in about 1 day.

The Lions & AFL are still quite popular here even though it clearly is a Rugby League city.

Yes no doubt. And when you look at there being theee teams making the finals in the seconds competition, that shows the level of interest and the quality at a senior and high level in the state. The NRL would love to have a Rl presence if that of Aussie Rules in Queensland.

Ta, some of the recent figures given are a little higher than that.
I’m gradually doing some GF figures, I might go with 83,500.
And get whinged at.
