Truthbomber bombs the truth.

Highly appropriate user name methinks.

Now tell us - how many Sydney NRL clubs can boast 27,000 paid up members?
2
Parramatta & South Sydney
35000 & 32000 respectively

how many fumbleball teams from Sydney can regularly get audiences over 100K on TV in Sydney
or even irregularly ?
Why don't these members go to watch?

Only two?? And I want to see proof of those numbers, especially Parramatta's.

And TV ratings actually aren't as important as spectators at games for the AFL. Why? Because it makes more money out of it. Something the NRL needs to learn, but won't because it's supporters are too lazy to get out of their coaches.

Links please. And the leagues clubs are not owned by NRL clubs. At best it's the other way around, and because the LC's do other things it doesn't count. That's because the LC's income do NOT go 100 percent to the RL club. Nowhere near it.

Its actually a bit of both. Some NRL clubs are controlled by their leagues clubs, some leagues clubs have the District club - not the NRL club - as the parent entity.

Cronulla, Newcastle, Penrith, Parramatta, North Queensland all have a leagues club as a parent entity. Raiders, Easts and Canterbury leagues parents are the District Rugby League club (not the NRL club). Wests are owned by the Wests Ashfield group.

Melbourne, Manly, Gold Coast, NZ and South Sydney are majority privately owned. Brisbane are ASX listed whith News Ltd a major shareholder. St George are half owned by WIN, half by the St George Rugby League club.

which is why the NRL and the clubs have been desperately pushing them since 2011.

AFL clubs generated 280 odd million from memberships and gate takings last year, $319m in 2019 (NRL TV rights that year were worth about 380m)

The Swans did nearly 13m on their own last year - about what your average NRL club received as a tv distribution. They then took 15m in sponsorship on top of that - well above ANY NRL team.

desperately ?
hardly , some NRL clubs don't even announce their numbers anymore
NRL clubs are now investing & becoming diverse in how they become financially self sufficient
something fumbleball clubs could learn to do

3/16 dont. Including the Warriors and Titans who have fuck all members to announce.

Some AFL clubs are already doing this. Most are kind of investing in being...um...football clubs.
