Soccer World Cup 2022

Post by Quolls2019 »

Australia has qualified for the world Cup 2022 by beating Peru in Doho.

I cant recall seeing any advertising or promotion for this game and therefore I was not aware it was on.

It may give a boost to soccer in OZ, But for how long may depend on results.

The broadcast rights appear to be currently limited to optus sports, this may diminish any impact the success or failure the socceroos may have. Although some sites say SBS have FTA rights and Foxtel\Kayo have streaming rights.

Since 10/Paramount broadcast this game, is there a capacity/agreement to broadcast the entire competition or just the socceroos game.

Penalty shootouts are a horrible way to decide a match.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

It maybe that optus only have certain limited rights for the mens world cup but exclusive rights for the womens cup. Its all in the fine print…not clear in the main body of their website.

there will be hype leading into the world cup..
they will lose all 3 games and that will be it.

France v Australia
Tunisia V Australia
Denmark v Australia

the cash injection for making it, is what Soccer Australia Is interested in.

Apart from the 12 million they get for getting there , nothing to be sneezed at for a sport that is flat broke in this country & a few weeks of some extra eye balls on the games we play in the pool round , it will have no effect on the sports position in this country just like the previous 4 world cups had.

The game this morning was described as a thriller in later news bulletins , I watched it from the point it went into extra time .. when i got up.
It was boring , defensive , with both sides trying not to get beaten rather then trying to win & happy to roll the dice in the goal shoot out which as some have said is a shocking way to lose a game & a blight on soccer IMO.

we will get rolled in all 3 pools games as we are in a strong group & true soccer nations like Italy, Ukraine & Columbia will wonder what the hell we're doing there & they are not

penalty shootouts are shocking.. they have decided so many big matches in Soccer in recent times.
they are just as bad a Super Over in Cricket..

Australia's path to the World Cup always is boring, they vs mainly nations below the poverty line
and are ranked 100+

SBS has rights to all the matches at the World Cup. But you are right, it’s not a big deal qualifying for it anymore. They have not won a match at the World Cup for 12 years and can’t see that changing.
