Battle of the Gold Coast - Suns vs Titans
With the Suns finally looking like an exciting team to watch after years of disappointment… even in with a chance of playing finals for their first time ever in 2022, can we expect them to win over the locals with some blockbusters set for Metricon Stadium?
The Suns latest offer for the remaining games looks like good value.
Anyone know the Suns vs Titans membership tallies?

Re: Battle of the Gold Coast - Suns vs Titans
I place very little on the membership tallies of clubs with all the three game, 1 game etc.
I think we will see 3 larger crowds - or should - with Pie,Cats, and Tigers. I think the Pies game will be a big one with plenty flying in - think it is school holidays. Eagles will be average and Adelaide could be an okay crowd. Given the Pies v Suns could determine finals appearances for both clubs it could be big.

i tell ya one thing on the Gold Coast,
NRL / Titans receives from the networks & Radio stations the majority of the coverage by a good length.
What ya will notice is Advertising on bus stop billboards etc etc >> AFL Win hands down..
THE NRL do literally nothing

Because they're vicderpian sides & the sport .... well if we're being honest , really only appeals to vicderpians or wannabe vicderpians ( WA /SA) including the ones that have moved to QLD

Leroy- you need to get outside of your bubble All suns games are on the radio (MMM I think) and of course live on FTA. I find that the news will mention the Lions (as Brisbane based) but often not the Suns.leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 11:14 ami tell ya one thing on the Gold Coast,

i was talking about mainstream media, as in news and print form. not televised games.Fred wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 12:20 pmLeroy- you need to get outside of your bubble All suns games are on the radio (MMM I think) and of course live on FTA. we all know Suns get all 23 games televised on FTA where as the titans are lucky to have 6 games on FTA.

Re: Battle of the Gold Coast - Suns vs Titans
well yeah there is no surprise the big teams from Victoria bring the big crowds.truthbomber wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 11:23 amBecause they're vicderpian sides & the sport .... well if we're being honest , really only appeals to vicderpians or wannabe vicderpians ( WA /SA) including the ones that have moved to QLD
the influx of Melbournians on the gold coast also helps,
you get the fanbase of how big it is when non Melbourne teams play the Suns
which is tiny

Re: Battle of the Gold Coast - Suns vs Titans
I used to see a lot in print form for the Suns as GCB was/is a sponsor - however rarely read the paper these days. I do get a lot in my feed from GC Bulletin though - Tom Tate going to game in Ballarat, wearing his MND beanie with Cochran the other day etc. I rarely see the news either these days - occasionally but rarely. But definitely do not hear or see as much as I used to about the Suns. I think both teams have a small niche market that is for sure. Problem I see for the Titans is that most people on GC already have a team - but do not seem to see the titans as a second team - whereas my experience with the Suns is that whilst many have a first AFL team, a lot do take them on as their secondary team. It being a non-AFL town also possibly helps in that kids aren't being indoctrinated by their parents into an AFL team as they would if your parents followed NRL - allowing the young person to attach to the local Suns. NRL is still king here however, just may be not the titans.

Re: Battle of the Gold Coast - Suns vs Titans
Adelaide get good crowds usually too - if they are doing well of course. I think that is the big factor - how well the opposing team is doing - I think with the Suns doing better and possibly something riding on the game - there may be an influx of supporters - or should be anyway. Will wait and see.leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 12:26 pmwell yeah there is no surprise the big teams from Victoria bring the big crowds.truthbomber wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 11:23 amBecause they're vicderpian sides & the sport .... well if we're being honest , really only appeals to vicderpians or wannabe vicderpians ( WA /SA) including the ones that have moved to QLD

Looking at the figures it is apparent that the Titans only draw fair crowd numbers when a successful in form team is in town.
The Sun's can easily outdraw the tiny Titans crowds given a run of good form and a popular opposition club as opponents.

Suns have a much bigger membership base too. Just over 18,000 thus far. The Titans no longer report their membership tally.

Afl team in western Sydney have 100,000 members but can't get 2k to ground on Saturday night. Shows what those numbers are worth..Beaussie wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 12:02 pmSuns have a much bigger membership base too. Just over 18,000 thus far. The Titans no longer report their membership tally.
