Re: Tasmania
If they do it right they could clean it up in five years. But the thing is the state league has issues that were created by former AFL Tasmania head honcho Scott Wade. He did so much damage to the structure. They tried to battle back but losing Burnie and Devonport hurt them.

Re: Tasmania
Surely a stadium deal is not far off now?
"One in every 24 Australians is now a member of an AFL club, a sign that the national reach of Australian football has never been greater," League CEO Gillon McLachlan said.

Re: Tasmania
And after they add the 20th, they will be able to afford another two…then they should stop.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

Re: Tasmania
Tasmanian stadium funding secured. AFL set to expand to 19th and surely soon 20th team.

Re: Tasmania
A well overdue, by a decade at least, decision, the hobart Launceston divide will need to be managed very carefully. Needs to be a Tasmanian side in both name and practise (and practice.)

Re: Tasmania
Canberra? Although they already have 2 football teams in national leagues with a small population, should have put a team in when the raiders were first mooted, and GWS are a slim chance to be moved there.
Northern Territory? Small population would need backing by the big industries up there,
Northern Australia (including NT) could work but logistics maybe an issue…..most home games in Darwin, and then spread over Rocky, Cairns, Alice Spring and Townsville.,,,the Nomads.
Another in WA
Or bite the bullet and put another in the east coast of NSW (North Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle).
No New Zealand or any other off shore base.

Re: Tasmania
Canberra needs its own team, but I really like the idea of a Northern Australia team representing NT and Qld like you suggest above.Quolls2019 wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 1:13 pmCanberra? Re: Tasmania
I think Canberra could work - also gives- chance to revamp GWS. - however also like the idea of New Castle. The safe option is another Adelaide team -

Re: Tasmania
Repeating what others think
Long overdue.
And I agree it should have happened 10 to 20 years ago.
Good use of federal funding, this project will create hundreds of jobs.
The economic stimulus that will be a benefit all over Tasmania due to ( sports fan tourism ) will more than compensate for the millions invested.
Funding for schools and hospitals etc should be allocated irrespective of other projects such as freeways and sports stadiums etc.

Re: Tasmania
I think their is enough of an AFL presence in SA
Newcastle could work but would need to name it NNC Newcastle North Coast to embrace and include the many fans living in communities north of Newcastle.
