Hard to believe this rubbish still goes on in the GPS schools system.

I have a relative in Cairns who says RU is a distant 4th in kids participation in their city, behind RL, AFL, and soccer. The first 2 are basically neck and neck. He's pretty upset given he was a talented RU player in his youth. His boys play AFLFred wrote: Sun Mar 21, 2021 9:55 amWhat do they fear? If a kid wants to play sport, any sport, it should be encouraged. Australian Rules Football is a big sport in QLD, I would say on participation and clubs it would seem bigger than Union... which appears to be dying..... maybe that’s the fear ...

Yeah - I think you are right in saying those leaving Union would more likely go to the NRL/League - not to AFL. Does that make sense? I think Union is dead in this country by and large apart from a few pockets - no where near where it used to be - and think AFL has over taken it in southern QLD anyway.leeroy*NRL* wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 11:26 am???Fred wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 7:59 amOh yeah.... not saying AFL is replacing Union ... just saying that ahead of Union.

union is now a fringe sport, its got more publicity this year than ever before too because on Channel 9's push

I recan Private schools not playing League for decades and decadesTerry wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 8:25 pmThis is such a stupid claim. Ignoring the fact GPS schools have refused to play RL for over a century did anyone actually think the reason was that no one actually wants to play fumbling in Qld's GPS schools??
They were let in for years but now they've been punted. RL was never afforded that opportunity. I suspect the response from the students was underwhelming so they canned it. Simple common sense!!!!
