Hard to believe this rubbish still goes on in the GPS schools system.

What do they fear? If a kid wants to play sport, any sport, it should be encouraged. Australian Rules Football is a big sport in QLD, I would say on participation and clubs it would seem bigger than Union... which appears to be dying..... maybe that’s the fear ...

I have a relative in Cairns who says RU is a distant 4th in kids participation in their city, behind RL, AFL, and soccer. The first 2 are basically neck and neck. He's pretty upset given he was a talented RU player in his youth. His boys play AFL

Union has fallen off a cliff but it is still ahead of AFL in QLD>
though AFL are making big numbers up on union.

Union' worse enemy is another NRL team coming on board.

I wouldn’t say so on the Gold Coast ... rugby Union is dying big time. Daughters boyfriend plays and they have to travel to Brisbane regularly to play given teams were low here.

Afl is also pretty big in north qld. Just bought a place on port Douglas for holidays and being up there a bit it is very prominent.

well yeah maybe the Gold Coast, but in Brissy and surrounds it is leaps ahead.

the more union Dies the more popular League becomes, as they are competing against each other.

Port Douglas... Beautiful

Yeah - I think you are right in saying those leaving Union would more likely go to the NRL/League - not to AFL. Does that make sense? I think Union is dead in this country by and large apart from a few pockets - no where near where it used to be - and think AFL has over taken it in southern QLD anyway.

yeah that makes more sense,
union is now a fringe sport, its got more publicity this year than ever before too because on Channel 9's push

yeah i prob tend to agree, it would be very close with Union on Gold Coast if not in front.

remember i live on the Gold Coast too :)))

This is such a stupid claim. Ignoring the fact GPS schools have refused to play RL for over a century did anyone actually think the reason was that no one actually wants to play fumbling in Qld's GPS schools??

They were let in for years but now they've been punted. RL was never afforded that opportunity. I suspect the response from the students was underwhelming so they canned it. Simple common sense!!!!
