NRL should lay groundwork to 18th team, ASAP>

and future developments 19th and 20th for Future
Bit of talk in the press today about a 3rd Brisbane area side by 2025.
i think there intentions may be to lock up Brisbane

Dolphins to the North

JETS to South West Corridor
yea

its the NRL's strategy now to lock out the awful completely from SE qld
4 SE qld sides
3 brisbane sides averaging 25K each
twice the number supporting the comp when the broncos were at their height soaking up all the media space , so it makes sense

NZ2 in 2028 or so

its bad news for the awful

I haven’t seen any informed comment that says the AFL are concerned about the new Brisbane team or the NRL expansion.

I have said in a previous post that the NRL are not expanding the footprint of the game but are expanding the number of teams. “Converting the converted”.
I like the attached analogy “circling the wagons”

There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

the NRL is choosing not to piss hundreds of millions up against the wall like the awful has done in the last decade with its last 2 sides & fish where the fish are
this strategy will consolidate the codes numb one status in QLD to a point where its never under threat

the awful has done nothing much really to expand its footprint with its last expansion sides & its still costing them

A second Brisbane team was formed in 1995 but closed down due to a deal done between Super League and the ARL when the game came back together. They should never have have been punted so this is really only correcting a past wrong.

The difference between RL and the AFL is that fumbling is basically maxed out in Aust and has nowhere else to go to expand. RL has many options including Perth, NZ 2, PNG or the pacific islands. There has also been talk of the NRL buying the pommie Super League and running both comps.

Plenty of options for the future!

NRL hasn’t even got a National Footprint, It failed in its attempts for 2 major states, the NRL and its predecessor, have far more failed expansion attempts than the AFL.
Its major victory was creating a team in Canberra whilst the AFL/VFL did nothing, a major strategic error by that the AFL/VFL.
Adding a new side in Brisbane in 2023, and likely another a couple of years later, is not expanding it is increasing the number of teams.
The AFL is a Better bet for expanding their footprint within the next 5 years than the NRL,

Incorrect. The AFL has saturated their only possible markets. Whilst the NRL pulled teams out of Perth and Adelaide due to the Super League. And then of course there is the Melbourne Storm who are roundly described as being the best performed sporting club in the country.

A second Brisbane is long overdue. I would then go to Perth next. NZ 2 would be a goer at some stage also as would PNG. The only place the AFL could go is little Tassy and the NT. Both would need to be propped up with massive finances from somewhere but would add little to the overall comp.

Excatly.
Where can the AFl go.???
Bird shit island would be about it outside of Aust.

& I love how the casualties of the Sl war peace deal are described as failed expansion efforts.

National Footprint - That's just a feel good story, something that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling and helps your lot to get to sleep each night. RL has more supporters in Australia, dominate 12 of the biggest 15 cities and have a National team (a real one). We don't suffer from the same inferiority complex. If yo want to reduce this to a dick measuring contest then we win by the length of the Randwick strait.
Australia's number 1 sport RUGBY LEAGUE. Preferred by more Australians than any other

i think you need to look up the history of the Super League War..
Where the game and clubs lost around 500 Million Dollars in 1990's Money.

Perth actually had bigger crowds than Sydney Clubs, Super League Killed them off.

Interesting what Andrew Abdo said today in the press..

when asked about the 18th team.

the NRL would look at the next FTA Deal and next 5 years of finances
and where they look to invest..
this will give us a good look of where the game is likely to go.

it is guaranteed, NRL will have 18 teams before next TV DEAL>

NRL BIDS LINE UP

BRI 3
Perth
NZ 2

QUOTE>> ANDREW ABDO>> quality of these 3 bids each of them could of qualified and ran an NRL team
so we were spoiled for choice,

we are open minded, this does not necessary mean 18th team would be from QLD

we will look national and NZ before making a decision..

18th team could be in next cycle of tv rights (2023 - 2027) but no decision yet.
