You do realise the level of addiction here with gambling ... particularly the pokies.
Well and good Freddo but what about car accident injuries & fatalities ?? Does that not have a greater impact on society than gambling?? People killed. People maimed. Massive cost to families, friends & societal costs of health & emergency & many other government services.

Do we ban cars? Life is imperfect pal. Gambling can be bad........... so can walking across the road. Every individual has got to deal with it.

I see your point and it is one often raised. What about this and that they are bad too. If cars weren’t necessary then sure or Ealing across the road for that matter. Gambling isn’t necessary and once more Pokies are designed to be addictive and designed so you lose.

And if you're stupid enough to regularly play pokies bad luck. And if you're addicted get help. However gambling for most people is just an enjoyable past time. If we closed down every activity that harms a minority we may as well close down life.

I mean a minority of folk suffer concussion playing AFL that can allegedly destroy their lives in later life . Do we close down fumbling? A minority of people get addicted to prescription drugs.....do we ban all these health saving and life saving drugs?

No!! We get the minority help. Same as gambling.

So now terry will use my post to further avoid the points made in the article. I shall point this pattern out going forward.
Getting a bit cwanky are we Freddy lolololol!!!!!!! It's like this pal: I trust nothing that FitzIdiot says. He has been wrong on every major issue every time he opens his cavernous mouth. Let alone the fact he is notoriously loose with the truth. Which is the reason real historians call him a 'comic strip' author.

As to his latest rant: I would need more information before coming to a reasoned position. I would need to hear from Penrith Panthers and the relevant governments responsible for the promises, alleged changes and final allocation of the monies stated. You know...…..the other side of the story. Proof. Evidence,

It may come as a surprise to you pal but not everything written in newspapers is the gospel truth lolololol!!!! Let alone from serial obfuscators like FitzIdiot.

I will wait till more information comes to hand and give you my full and frank opinion at that time pal. Until then I feel humbled that you value my opinion so much you demand to know it on so many issues. Thanks for the vote of confidence pal!!!

Have a great day and keep morale high!!!

Minister for Sport and Penrith Panthers member now referred to ICAC. Still no word from Panthers who only make donations to the Liberal Party.

This stinks. So corrupt and wrong. Fitzy was spot on with his reporting and assessment.

Labor refers Ayres to ICAC for $12m sports promise

Labor has referred MP Stuart Ayres to the corruption commission over his $12 million campaign promise to the Penrith Panthers to build sports facilities that were used to finance a conference centre.

It comes after revelations Mr Ayres did not disclose his membership of the club, took thousands in donations from the Panthers, pushed for the deal to go through weeks before the 2019 election and insisted his signature be taken off the funding agreement.

Donations worth $4500 from Penrith Panthers in the lead up to the 2015 election had "absolutely" no effect on the decision to make a $12 million election commitment to a sports and conference centre at the club, Mr Ayres said.

"Panthers haven't made a donation in return for investment," the former sports minister said on Tuesday. "I think if you went back over time you'd see that they have donated to many local members across both sides of politics."

The Panthers have only donated to the NSW Liberal Party and Mr Ayres since 2005, giving $26,050, NSW electoral commission data shows.

The last donation Panthers made to Mr Ayres or the Liberal Party was in November 2015.

NSW opposition minister for sport Lynda Voltz said she had referred Mr Ayres to the Independent Commission Against Corruption because he had "improperly exercised his functions".

"Mr Ayres had significant support from the Penrith Panthers during the 2015 campaign," Ms Voltz said.

"If Mr Ayres thought it was such an issue that he did not declare his membership to the club that he got their funding agreement cancelled so that the CEO of sport could sign it, he should follow the federal sports minister Bridget McKenzie's lead and resign [due to the sports rorts affair]."

Mr Ayres told budget estimates on Tuesday that he was advised because the $12 million was an election commitment, his Panthers membership "could not be a conflict of interest because there was no choice between Penrith Panthers and some other entity".

Acting NSW minister for sport Geoff Lee said he will "look into" the decisions made by Mr Ayres.

the penrith pike club turns over 100 plus million in poke revenue alone and still received 20 odd million for a fridge car park for their poke venue

but but but GWS you loons continue to cry!

So I get the impression you do not see anything wrong with a Minister, whose political party receives donations from the club he is also a member of, then receives taxpayer funded sports grants in the millions of dollars - that are later found to be not even spent on the supposed sporting facilities originally promised and funded for? In this instance the sports funding grant or rort more like it, is being used to construct a convention centre and car park for the Panthers Group.

This is corrupt. Any wonder why the public has so little trust in politicians.

Anyway let’s see what The ICAC process reveals.

Yep. Let's see what the ICC come up with. Personally I don't trust any politicians no matter what side they are on. It is quite ironic though that the Minister responsible for this is actually an AFL fanboy!!!!!!!

Let the ICAC investigate. Penrith has always had a fairly clean track record.

All I am saying is if the richest sporting organization in the country (AFL) can get financial grants 5 times more than Penrith for their new GWS team.

Why should it be a problem if a NRL club gets a grant that is much less too?
Political donations or not.

Spending grant money on sporting facilities as to a car park and a function room are two very different things

And ffs your obsession with gws! They did not get all that money to benefit them self
Like usual you have NFI

No obsession with GWS, just stating the truth that you don't like.

Haha waa waa waa lol..

Did'nt you predict all 3 stadium upgrades would not happen lol??

Yet Parramatta Stadium got upgraded.

Sydney football stadium is getting upgraded.

Homebush is being converted to a rectangular stadium.

Hmmm so who actually has no idea?? :(/ =D

Pretty sure you predicted Toronto Wolfpack to fail. Hmm yet we have a second team in Canada now on it's way. :\:

There is no problem with grants when the grant is used how it was promised and intended. That clearly did not happen here hence the referral to the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Meanwhile, still no word from the Panthers Group. :-$

Only four clubs could survive football-free season without AFL help

several clubs seriously questioning the future of their AFLW teams.

In a series of developments over the past 24 hours it has emerged:

•Only four clubs - West Coast, Richmond, Hawthorn and Collingwood - could potentially survive a football-free season
•A handful of clubs will need extra funds within weeks to address their cash-flow crisis.
•Several clubs fielding AFLW teams are seriously questioning whether they can afford to continue in the national women's competition .

divisions emerged with clubs questioning the unfairness of the debt-free financial circumstances of Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney, which are funded each year to the tune of roughly $25 million respectively.St Kilda chairman Andrew Bassat, whose club is in debt to the tune of $12 million, emphasised those fears in Thursday's telephone hook-up.

So you’re saying Gollum that afl clubs need to apply for a 24 million dollar grant and still be entitled for more money for survival
