Fantastic NBL Crowd in Sydney

Well the result may have gone against my beloved Kings, but its great to see a massive crowd in attendance (by NBL standards of course).

Just, goes to show when the NBL spends a bit of money on promotion, for instance, bringing out the Harlem Globetrotters - the public will get out and support the game.

Nick Horvath delivered the early punches and Steven Markovic the knockout blow as the West Sydney Razorbacks claimed round two of this season's harbour city series against the Sydney Kings 93-76 in front of 14,805 NBL fans at the Sydney Superdome on Friday night.

The Razorbacks' fifth victory of the Philips Championship was a 51-point turnaround from the previous Sunday's 123-89 hammering at the hands of the Kings and now evens the ledger between the Sydney rivals at one-all.

Import Horvath (25 points, 13 rebounds) pummeled the Kings during both the first and third quarters before guard Markovic (19 points) sealed the win with a scintillating spell early in the fourth term.

For the first half it was a classic case of sibling rivalry - whatever little brother West Sydney could do (13-0 run in the first quarter), big brother the Kings (19-0 run in the second) did better.

The Razorbacks took a slender 48-46 lead at the half, but set up the victory with a Horvath-inspired 25-16 third quarter.

Horvath and Markovic received plenty of support from all corners of the 'Pig Pen'.

Simon Dwight was tough on the boards (15 rebounds, 6 blocks and 15 points), Sam Mackinnon provided plenty spark (8 assists, 9 points) while Scott McGregor delivered from the free-throw line (7-of-10 in his 11 points).

The injury-ravaged Kings meanwhile relied on the hot streaks of Ben Knight (15 points), Mark Sanford (11 points) and the ever-improving BJ Carter (16 points, including 5-of-9 three-pointers) to complement Jason Smith's team high 17 points..

After Sunday's shattering loss, West Sydney coach Mark Watkins said the win was an important confidence boost for both the team and its supporters.

Its good to see a decent crowd in basketball beaussie i just hope the larrikins who promote the games pull their bloody sox up and bring the game back from the brink.
