What if the unthinkable ?
If the nrl ratings started to turn south ... let’s say streaming takes off or people start turning off ... where would the nrl get revenue from? The AFL have various revenue streams and whilst ratings and broadcast rights are a major source of revenue I feel they could cope or survive with a drop in revenue rights. But I wonder how the already struggling (maybe struggling is a bit strong) nrl would cope. They seem dependent on broadcast rights moreso than AFL. Thoughts.

Re: What if the unthinkable ?
The NRL had already made desperate moves to try and shore up the next tv deal.
It's clear they know this current deal is the high water mark.
Do I recall correctly in thinking the NRL are expecting to be ruining at a loss by the last year of this deal.....?
As far as the next deals...
I expect a 10-15% drop as streaming rises.
Let's not forget there's still 3 years to run on this deal.
Where will streaming be in 3 years?

Lol the doom & gloom for RL by the fumblers .
One of the two sports has very good numbers on fox despite Kayo & other streaming services .
Guess which sport that is .

Re: What if the unthinkable ?
Just wondering AFLcrap, and this is a serious discussion not fight club, that if broadcast rights revenue falls, how this would impact on the NRL. I’m sure the AFL would be impacted too no doubt, but the nrl don’t have the financial might the AFL do and AFL have other revenue streams. Surely the nrl admin must be considering this? I know they have tried to boost crowd averages but are still struggling there but that would seem one area they may need to focus on some more.

“What you are not seeing in the ratings is our Kayo numbers. The platform continues to grow and people are watching as many as five and six sports with much cross over between NRL and AFL and major events like the Cricket World Cup.”
Delany wanted to stress, unlike some speculation, “The growth of Kayo is not coming at the expense of our Foxtel platform numbers. We have been having record NRL nuumbers for the Foxtel platform. You can then add on the Kayo numbers.

Maybe, but several clubs have gone begging to the nrlol for extra hand outs after the owners have refused to tip more in.Fred wrote: Sun Jul 28, 2019 5:59 pmDo you think the leagues club will continue to prop up at the levels required ?
The pokes will be around for ever and a day unfortunately but will be interesting when those self righteous crusader groups start applying pressure to the nrl clubs and nrl it self over the large owner ship of pokes, like we have seen with the AFL over the years
Clubs like the panthers, eels, raiders etc make more or near the same amount in revenue in pokes as all the Victorian based AFL clubs combined

Kayo and the streaming is relatively new and will settle out in the long term and we will see how the numbers preform then
It’s like you and the bankwest stadium 7 games in to the brand new venue and thinks the average will remain the same despite being nearly double the average of the past 60 years at the same location

Re: What if the unthinkable ?
On topic please .
Nrl numbers are holding steady on fox. Despite streaming .
How's the AFL numbers going .
& how surprising NRL numbers are good so it's a puff piece .
You'd think that fox would be doing a puff piece for AFL numbers seeing as they paid so much .
Or the numbers are too bad they they can't polish that turd
& if this is not the fight club can we have evidence of claims made such as this

Re: What if the unthinkable ?
And you’d think Kayo would be paying into the broadcast rights either through fox or directly .... so would broadcast rights drop . I mean it’s just moving numbers around from one platform to another... although in the above it seems it hadn’t impacted fox numbers. So I think you’re right to pose the question first as to whether income from broadcast rights will actually dto?AFLcrap1 wrote: Mon Jul 29, 2019 10:17 amhttps://www.mediaweek.com.au/morning-re ... y-17-2019/
