Say your a tv exec... you have the rights to Friday night AFL and Friday night nrl to choose for the year. Whichever you don’t put on goes to an opposition channel. Your job depends on you out rating the opposition channel . That’s the only metric. Which do you choose and why?

you chose the AFL which has outrated the NRL on Friday night for almost an entire season (most of 2018 & 2019). Plus it goes for 50% longer. Win win

So let’s say it’s not a Friday ... it’s the season ... but each game of AFL is in isolation... ?

No brainer Fred.
Head to head the AFL is not only the higher rated league virtually every time but it goes longer and has loads more opportunity for ads.

The problem with hypothetical's Freddy is that they're hypothetical. You know.......not real......so hardly worth posting about.

Nevertheless you entirely miss the point. AFL doesn't rate in Sydney and Brisbane. RL doesn't rate in Melbourne & the 2 desert state capitals except for SOO.

The biggest rating areas in order are Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Regional's, Perth & Adelaide. RL on FTA in Sydney/Brisbane wins it's time slot whenever it is shown. Same for AFL in it's heartlands.

Basically it is not and will never be an either/or proposition for TV execs. If you want to attract sponsors in Syd/Bris on Friday nights you broadcast RL. If you want to attract them in Melb etc you broadcast AFL.

Of course many companies advertise on both. So yep........your hypothetical is pointless Freddy my boy!!! Hope this helps.

I know it’s not realistic or probable ... hence it being hypothetical, but it is a question. So which do you choose Terry. They are the parameters of the scenario you are confronted with so no point adding in other dimensions - hence a hypwrthetical . So which is it.
