Well we’ve just heard that the Afl always set out for it to be a twenty year plan. We are at the 8 year mark and with significant on field success we see only a 1000 increase in home crowds. I’d say that’s a fail in anyone’s expansion books wouldn’t you dear cat? Going by that rate we will only see another 1.5k added to their crowd numbers in the next 12 years. Very ho hum

Then let’s talk other aspirations. Israel Folau? they gave him millions. He took it and left. let’s call that another fail shall we dear cats?

Then let’s say the team, originally a squad of the shpposed best teenagers in the country. They were supposedly going to be “scary good” after five years. What happened with that? Well they dumped and traded most of em for experienced players payed off with their massive Afl handouts. So let’s call that a fail too shall we cats. Three measures three fails. I know there’s more tho, can you cite them cats?

Israel Folau
why the hell would you rate a 20 year project as a fail after only 8 years? :hmm:
Look up the word ‘trajectory’ in the dictionary and try to comprehend dear nlol :)
look up the word "way too early to tell" in the dictionary.

The ginats have made some finals appearances but havent won anything meaningful. Fact is they are unique for both the NRL and AFL. Neither comp has introduced a second club into an expansion city. Personally I think 20 years is too early. It will take a generation for the giants to really generate a suitable supporter base

I agree a team in Tassie should happen however the need for a steam in western Sydney area also needed to occur to seed interest. My understanding is that there was basically little interest in Aussie Rules in the area and something needed to be done to address this. I’m not saying there is a great deal more but there is now a base from which to grow. I think the afl knows it will take time ... a lot of time and it will take money ... a lot of money however to do nothing I believed was assessed as being far more costly business wise.

Decent fair post there fred me boy! =D

Jolly well done.

We can only wait and see if the afl has made a decent decision. But given the current trajectory and the poor decisions I’ve outlined earlier, I don’t think this website will see a gws side that gets off the bottom two sides in the afl in terms of home crowds and members. I think if beaussie could pass this website down through perhaps 15 generations of his kin, then, perhaps, there’ll be an outside chance that gws will begin holding its own as an afl club.

Many more $$$ to come!

Perhaps they could have a name change. Gws leeches has a nice relevant ring to it dont ya think?

At least there were people at the game, 65k, and nearly 1mil watching on TV

The NRL had 12k at their brand new stadium to watch a 28-0 drubbing, and barely 700k watching on TV

have we one any? What does that mean?

Oh, have we 'won' any? Yes, we've had higher ratings on PTV for some games, but clearly the NRL are outrating the AFL on fox on average. It's interesting the AFL can lose the PTV ratings easily yet rate over 250k more nation-wide. AFL fans have left foxtel in droves it seems, including me. Kayo is just far better value.

This raises another factor for cumulative ratings comparisons. If the NRL states have far higher subscription rates yet rate lower nationally when all ratings are included a comparison of 200 games on fox is basically meaningless and only really reflects differences in subscription rates.
