With round 1 fast approaching and fans usually overly optimistic about their clubs performances it might be a worthy exercise to estimate the opening crowds for each game. Not for bragging rights but just to see who can predict the total for each code.
AFL
Tigers v Blues - 87,000
Bombers v Crows - 45,000
Saints v Lions - 36,000
Port v Freo - 42,000
Gold coast v Nth Melb - 18,000
Hawks v Pies - 65,000
GWS v Dogs - 16,000
Melb v Cats - 58,000
Eagles v Swans - 52,000
Total - 419,000

NRL

Dragons v Broncos - 22,000
Knights v Sea Eagles - 20,000
Cowboys v Sharks - 26000
West Tigers v Easts - 18,000
Sths v Warriors/Melb v Dogs - 42,000
Penrith v Eels - 20,000
Gold Coast v Camberra - 18,000

Total - 226,000

AFL
Tigers v Blues - 87,000 (will be the biggest crowd out side of G.F and Anzac Day)
Bombers v Crows - 45,000 (tick)
Saints v Lions - 36,000 (29k)
Port v Freo - 42,000 (39K)
Gold coast v Nth Melb - 18,000 (14K
Hawks v Pies - 65,000 (tick)
GWS v Dogs - 16,000 (12k)
Melb v Cats - 58,000 (49K)
Eagles v Swans - 52,000 ( 58k)
Total - 419,000

NRL

Dragons v Broncos - 22,000 >>>> don't even fit 22k at Kogarah lol ( 16k)
Knights v Sea Eagles - 20,000 (6pm kick off will affect this game) around 18k
Cowboys v Sharks - 26000 ( 26k is capacity to the brim) 21k
West Tigers v Easts - 18,000 ( I will go with 18k)
Sths v Warriors/Melb v Dogs - 42,000 (42k sounds good)
Penrith v Eels - 20,000 ( 20k if its chockers and fans are crammed in) I will go with 18k
Gold Coast v Camberra - 18,000 ( i will go with 14k)

I think some of the league total might not quiet live up to expectations. There will however be a lot of interest so the TV numbers should be good.

Dragons/Broncos -17k
Knights/Sea Eagles - 22k
Cowboys/ Sharks - 23k
West/East 15k
Sths/NZ/Dogs/Storm - 38k
Pen/eels - 16k
G.Cst/Canb - 16k

As for the Suns/Nth Melb match your obviously predicting what they will post the crowd as, not what the crowd will actually be

Low expectations already I see. To be expected when it comes to NRL crowds I guess.

Glad to see you escaped from the bowels of the SFS grandstands beatup lololololololololo.

Now: as I have stated many times re crowds - The NRL average more than the French Top 14 or English Aviva premiership. French soccer average 21k. Pop. 67M. Italian soccer average 22k. Pop. 61M. NRL avg 16k. Pop 24M. By world standards the NRL averages are very good.

The Australian Fumbling League average per head of population is No 1 in the world. Congratulations. Someone should do a PHD on why this is so. I suspect it's to do with living in Bleak City and the dismal desert states. I mean the poor buggers will do anything and go anywhere to take their minds of their sad, desperate lives. They get bigger crowds for everything - tennis, soccer, golf, cricket, long distance spitting......everything.

For what it's worth I suspect the NRL will have increased crowds this year. They have better stadium deals, slightly better scheduling and control of the draw back from broadcasters.

The Richmond vs Carlton game is already sold out so they should get at least 95,000 to that. I would say closer to 100,000 if the weather is fine, its all up to the MCC members

Its scary how popular the tigers are especially now they are premiers

I would expect the Melbourne's faithful to be attending the matches that there implanted devices are telling them they need to attend.

Yep, a 20k average is what the NRL should aspire to get. The new stadiums at Parra, Homebush & Townsville will increase crowds without doubt. Not so sure about the one at Moore park. I'd rather spend money on 3 or 4 boutique 20-25k stadiums around Sydney.

Spot on

Olympic Stadium i really hope has a roof>>
how good would be not worrying about the weather each week.
knowing that it is going to be perfect conditions>

something that the AFL has got which is brillant in Ethiad.

I would love to see Campbeltown upgraded and Tigers moved there> population & infrastructure is growing massively.

boutique suburban stadiums around the 25k mark work well.
just look at the premier league.

Yeah of course, with the exception of NRL games involving the local team/premiers. Strange that eh? :hmm:
