NRL on verge of launching national women’s rugby league competition

THE NRL is planning to launch a national women’s rugby league competition next year in what would be a watershed moment for the female game in Australia.

It hopes to have the plans finalised by the end of the year and for the tournament to be launched in 2018.

The NRL has more meetings planned for next week.
It’s understood the first edition of the league will be a condensed format and will run alongside the NRL finals in September-October, following the completion of the state-based NSW and Queensland women’s competitions

Female rugby league participation went up by 32 per cent in 2017 and the women’s game is the fastest growing area of the code.
There are 90 female rugby league competitions across Australia and participants can now play from under-6s all the way through to seniors

I hope they're going to align teams with NRL clubs. That will give them access to existing supporters bases and media exposure.

One thing is for sure - it will be a better standard of play than the fumbling mess the AFLW provided.

Lol we already have test matches & have done for a long time .

So in that respect we are a along way in front of fumbles .
Let's just hope when this starts that the NRL & those associated don't carry on like the fumblers did .
Calling games sell outs when a ticket wasn't sold .
The bullshit carrying on in the media like afl had invented women's sport .

The bullshit crowd figures ..

Hopefully they just get on with it without the carrying on .

The RLWC ratings has shown that people still want to watch the game after the GF. They should think about running a ladies comp in Oct/Nov when they would have clean air and get good media exposure and ratings. Knowing our management though they'll probably stuff it up.

Better late than never I guess.

The NRL always appears to be following the lead of the AFL.

Yeah women’s Australian Rules has taken off here in south east qld it appears.

Before crapper asks .... could you provide proof bearing in mind this cannot be a newspaper article, figures provided by the afl or qafl, or something written by a club president.

Rumours. Nothing more until something comes out from NRL HQ thats definitive.

Kind of funny how these rumblings start the day after the AFL announced 700 new female clubs across the country in the space of a year. 70 of those in queensland.

They've been playing televised matches long before the AFL ever where.

What were the numbers they announced at Birchgrove oval?
