Wow, I gotta first commend channel 7 and the AFL for deciding to ride their international rules on the cotails of the rlwc. I def wouldn't have tuned in if it wasn't for first watching the rlwc.

So ... it's early in the international rules match and I gotta say the amateur Irishmen look faster, stronger and more skilful than our highly paid ahem 'professional' AFL players. It's really quite astounding how much slower our guys are. And they're getting pummelled also.

To me it's indicative of the ease with which even tennis players seem to be able to switch to top level Aussie rules. The quality of the individual athlete just ain't that high in the AFL. It's just how it is.

Commentators saying Australian team much bigger in stature ... but contested marks, contested balls and tackles are def going the Irish way. The Irish are smaller but much stronger.

At half time a melee erupted. The Irishmen were easily wrestling the aussies to the ground. Again the Irish looked stronger. You'd think with all the time our Aussie pros get to focus on strength work, compared to the amateur Irishmen, you'd think the aussies would be tougher...

They only do best of two

Meanwhile the aussies are playing a bit better but theyre def not as good with their hand eye coordination than the Irish. They drop the ball a lot more.

The Irish are just faster and stronger. The AFL lads kick pretty well.

Dangerfield just got in a wrestling match with a smaller Irishman. The Irishman put dangerfield on the deck easy.

A good close match with the Aussies just by the skin of their teeth getting the win. If it wasn't for betts and fyfe the Australians would have lost by 25-40 points.

The Irish showed more pace, agility, strength and passion but in the end Australia got home with taller and perhaps fitter athletes, they came home in the last quarter. But really it was only fyfe and betts that made the difference.

Not a bad watch.

Commentators saying Goddard played well at goal keeper. His saves were actually something an under 10 soccer goalie would claim as stock standard

Go Aussies. Too fit, too strong, too athletic in the end. Despite the disadvantage of the very awkward and unfamiliar round ball, the Australian team was able to run out winners. The Irish, not used to being tackled, did find this a challenge with them often seeming surprised when caught with the ball. Overall, despite not being a fan, was good a good game to watch. Fast, free flowing, skilful. Fyfe was a standout and took a great grab that brought the crowd to their feet. Truth be told if the Aussies were familiar with the round ball, especially at goal, they would have win by a lot more. All in all a good fun day and great effort by the Irish who gave their all.
