The Future for Souths

Crowds of just over 6,000 two weeks in a row now. Gees that's going to look great out at the 83,500 seat Telstra Stadium next year.

Get them out of Sydney, it was a mistake bringing them back in the first place. Would the people of the Central Coast support such a shit team though.

Get rid of the Swans and let Souths play at the SCG!

Latest news is Souths want a 12,000 seat boutique stadium at Redfern to be used 3 or 4 times a year.

They'd struggle filling that and do we really need to see more taxpayer dollars wasted on rugby league teams and under utilised stadiums?

I'd much prefer to see the tax dollars of NSW residents being spent on things like public transport, hospitals, education etc.

I love the sound of this boutique stadium. I would hope they go truly boutique though, and add red and green frills, old fashioned tunes played on vinyl, perhaps rocking chairs instead of the bland seating we have nowadays. It sounds just exquisite

I seriously can't see Clover Moore and Sydney City Council ever fully supporting the plans Souths have for Redfern Oval. The ground should be turned into a unfenced recreational venue for all the community, not just Souths.

No that would be just wastage. All that'd happen there would be old people sitting and chatting, and drunks drinking. I say go the boutique stadium! Its souths stadium anyway! :D

No it's not. The taxpayers and rate payers of Sydney City own the ground. Sydney City Council has final say what happens, not Souths. They merely lease the ground from Council.

Souths are a fuckin joke.

We hear year after year they will come good and nothing eventuates.
Oh sure they buy stars but that gets them nowhere.
Its really the management that is to blame with George Piggens and his old beleifs getting into the ears of some of his friends on the Souths board.

IMO It is not a professional club like the Roosters, Eels etc its still stuck in the days of the old meat raffle.

Have to say I totally agree. The club is a shambles. Fair dinkum, a move to an 83,500 seat stadium in the west of Sydney, hopes of a 12,000 seat boutique stadium in Redfern. Here's an idea, focus on recruiting good players and winning each week.

Still no sign of the majority of those 80,000 who marched down George Street demanding Souths be re-admitted.

Them moving to Telstra is a joke they should have stayed at Moore Park.
Or if they think they have support in the went move to Parramatta stadium.
6 thousand wont be as embarrasing in a 20K stadium than a 83K stadium.

With this boutique stadium in Redfern as you said before Clover Moore wont let it happen. It she had her way we would have a botanical garden all the way along George street. The NRL average is around 15K and they wanna have 3 or 4 games with a sell out is 12K does that sound a little stupid to you? If the capacity was around 15-20K it wouldnt be as laughable and people might take the idea seriously.

The 80K on George street went to the 1st few games in 2002 then dropped off. Some of the rent a crowd still attend 2 games a year against the Roosters.

Would you agree that Souths have the biggest bandwagon of supporters in the NRL? So much for the pride of the league.

Latest news in the south sydney times says the boutique stadium is going in with an old fashioned red and green merry go round at one end for the kiddies and a big ferris wheel at the other. Sounds great to me!!!
