Nrl in crisis

With crowds going backwards in Sydney and ratings also a concern, what does the nrl need to do to address the slide? The game itself obviously has merit as State of Orgin still pulls crowds and rates phenomenally, so how do we get the same interest in home and away season.

One suggestion is to go back to suburban games to generate atmosphere?

Some have suggested to "bring back the biff" however if you want to attract only those who watch the footy use and use A Current Affair" to garner their news ... then I don't see this as viable in growing the game outside this traditional working class cohort the games orgins are founded

More double headers maybe ? But too much and the novelty wears off.

I think having 4 quarters has a lot of merit ... making the game day experience more worthwhile than it current appears to be.

Anyone else have any suggestions to fix the game ?

Now, whilst I know it may be tempting to bash the nrl and make fun of their ratings and crowds ... this thread isn't about that. This thread is about solutions and trying to reverse the slide of the nrl. Only constructive comments thanks.

Return a lot of the games to the Burbs (especially Thursday Night & Friday 6pm game)

More Day footy

Bigger games at better times at bigger stadiums>>>

scheduling has got to be looked at in depth...

as ive stated before, lets see what the NRL commission do in 2018
as they control scheduling from this point..

lets see if they can make a difference.

Problem is the surbaban grounds are apparently dated & would require work & not totally sure is a 6pm game time would suit as a lot of people are still stuck in traffic the

A 7pm time should be ok for the nrlol as the games are shorter than a AFL game & the AFL has 7.30/7.50 start tine for their Thursday and Friday night games & that doesn't seem an issue

Brookie
Leichardt
Campbeltown
belmore

need upgrades..

still cannot believe NRL are continuing with 6pm slot..
didn't rate on the box or crowd wise.

Melbourne must be too. They forking out millions for it. There even bidding on our Grand Final - gee they must be starved for descent sport in Melbourne.

Perth's also chasing origin .

Rugby leagues doing alright. Its the most viewed sport in Australia , making it clear that its the most popular sport in this country :thumbleft:

This is a good point Pusey... SoO is the becon of light in what is otherwise a very bleak environment at present for rl and the nrl in this country. Goodness knows where it would be without it.

What ideas or thoughts do you have to arrest the sliding ratings and crowd numbers for games, particularly evident in this finals series to date.

oh, Melbourne have a chance every fortnight to watch NRL, and the vast majority choose not to. The storm get lower crowds than every Melbourne AFL team.

The funny thing is the fumblers get all excited & have a group wank session over headlines like this
As Leeroy said
According to the media RL has been in crisis since 1908 .
So another headline makes no difference .
