THE opening round of the AFL season would be played overseas for premiership points in a plan pitched to league headquarters by footy legend Kevin Sheedy.

Sheedy said matches should be played across the globe to broaden the reach of AFL and use Aussie expats living abroad to help sell the code to the masses

“We’re in a better position now than ever to seriously look at the growth of our game overseas while we’re still promoting and developing it in the northern states of Australia,’’ he said

We already play multiple games overseas ....

The biggest event at Wembley a few years ago was a test between England & NZ
There's pro & semi pro Rl matches played in NZ PNG France England Canada during the year .

If it can get grow the game in nz what chance does it have anywhere else?
