WHAT THE ......

What is AFLX?
Played on a soccer-sized oval
Played between two sides of seven,
three on each interchange bench
Ten-minute quarters
No centre bounces
(kick-ins from full-back after each goal) One umpire

Radical new concept AFLX set to be launched on pre-finals bye weekend

THE AFL is reportedly preparing to launch a Twenty20-inspired version of the game later this year which is seen as the answer to opening up international markets.

After months of secret trials, AFLX — a high-octane, seven-a-side version of football played on soccer-sized grounds with quarters shortened to 10 minutes — is being slated to be shown off to fans on the pre-finals bye weekend this year

The AFL says it is looking to showcase the new version of the game between the best players from teams that miss this year’s finals series

Got my doubts over this.

Why not bring in a state of origin series, VIC, SA, WA and the rest of the states combined. Seems to work well for league.

From someone who finds AFL very boring, poorly structued and an absolute mess of a sport.

This could be an improvement.

Looks like AFL is copying Rugby7s.

I don't get it...

THE CLUBS are not happy to play SOO in AFL.. because of injuries..

but there happy to play this version of the game..

you can get an injury just as much in this or in a big game.

Soo should be after season. It is big enough to stand alone and players are committed and passionate.

A Point which was missed..

THE AFL is reportedly preparing to launch a Twenty20-inspired version of the game later this year
which is seen as the answer to opening up "INTERNATIONAL MARKETS"

does this prove all along the AFL is actually trying to go international with Aussie Rules.
for example New Zealand now China..

You better check with Wookie on that one. He has very strong views on this matter and get's very angry with anyone that doesn't agree with him.

Like any business ... you must have a multifaceted approach. The main focus obviously is the health of the game. This would be broken into grassroots, club level, and expansion interstate or growing the game in those parts of nsw where it needs growing and also qld. Then there would be aflw which has been bigger than anyone could expect. Somewhere within it all would be having feelers out for opportunities for international exposure. This would be very small. I think they dipped the toe in nz and didn't work so has taken a back seat. China was not the afl but port Adelaide who did this with afl saying they could and supporting their initiative. That game was nothing to do with growing or introducing the game in China. It was all business.

Aflx I think it more about local ... a new branch similar to touch for people who like union and rl.
