Coronavirus Australia: Deputy chief medical officer addresses prospect of NRL island
Australia's deputy chief medical officer has warned the NRL it cannot operate as "a law unto themselves" over a plan to restart the game as early as May 28 and he's not impressed with sports' fans dream of a virus-free NRL island.
The bespectacled epidemiologist who is one of the masterminds behind Australia's successful coronavirus response, Professor Paul Kelly admitted on Good Friday that his "mind boggles" at the prospect of quarantining players and staff on an NRL island as some have proposed, in Queensland.
“It sounds like a reality show they might continue it on, not just the playing, but what happens for the rest of the week, the mind boggles,'' he said in Canberra.

V'landys returned serve, telling News Corp the NRL were transparent in consultation with NSW health authorities and claims the code has received the medical green light to resume the premiership next month.

"We are allowed to resume under the health order," V'landys said.

"We also have authorisation in writing (from NSW authorities).

"He (Kelly) unfortunately is unaware of the health order and our dealings with the relevant authorities."

As for an Island. That's not the plan. Does he even know what's gong on?

A perfect example of someone not being as important as they would like to think!

There are several others who have expressed surprise ... bewilderment ... I also wouldn’t be surprised d the minister, possibly out of spite... and reading public sentiment, overturns any decision some bureaucrat May have made. Then there is the federal minister and the qld minister...... to have not had those chats with these important people is pretty amazing ... working in silos we call it rather than collaboratively. Come on pussy you got yo be shaken your head... the broader community, commentators, politicians ... they all can’t believe it ...

It's starting to look like Fairfax/9 misread or underestimated the ARLCs reaction .
Also misread other network interest .

which other network interest. News reports last night say 7 and 10 arent interested.

Two days ago un-sourced, un-named sources said both FTA networks were interested. Today un-sourced, un-named sources say they both aren't. Anyone who believes what is said in the media under these circumstances and in these times is naive at best and plain stupid at worst.

You believe what you want to believe .

My guess is
Journo rings ch 7
Gets put through to some junior desk jockey .
Is it true that 7 are after the NRL .
Umm I don't know ..I'm not privy to that info .
So you can't say that they are .
So they're not
Thank you
For the inside info .

The NRL is currently locked in a nuclear battle with Nine over what the current season will look like going forward.

The Herald claims that Nine’s current tactic is to stall and drag on negotiations for as long as possible so they have less content to pay for.

Nine’s preference is for the NRL to wait until crowds are allowed back, even if that is not until 2021.

Seven is said to be monitoring the situation closely and has strong interest in making a play at broadcast rights if the relationship between Nine and the NRL continues to sour.

Ch.7 & C9 showing interest in RL. :thumbleft:

Hopefully they Push STATE OF ORIGIN TO OCTOBER >
AND PLAY SEASON AS Per programmed SLIGHTLY SHORTEN

I would say NRL AND CH9 are moving forward
that is why the Networks have dropped out about buying into current season.

channel 10 and channel 7 will be lining the NRL's offices for next negotiations

As I explained earlier Wookster.............un-known/un-named sources said 10 & 7 were interested. Then un-known/un-named sources said they weren't. So take a pick either way pal......kinda like a guess!!!!!
