WOW!

"Mr Greenberg said rugby league would look to build up its reserves during the pending broadcast rights cycle from 2018 onwards, in which the league will receive a record $1.9 billion from Nine Entertainment Co, Fox Sports and Telstra.

But the NRL will build its own digital media business under chief digital officer Rebekah Horne, formerly of Network Ten, rather than having its websites and apps run by Telstra as is currently the case.

"We think it is a better way for us to engage with our fans...and we need to be ready with new apps and the like by January 1, 2018," Mr Greenberg said."

With the NRL maintaining all, or most of its digital rights.
gaining It's own Tv Channel
and, already this year selling its world cup broadcast rights to CH 7 for$10m

which code did fair best from the TV broadcast rights deal?

In recent Years: Rugby League has made greater profits, its revenue has grown faster, and it the most watched football code in this Country. But bronze is OK if you don't mind being runner up to the runner up

Its easy to have rapid revenue growth when you are starting from a low base.
borrowing from Eels post:

'
Since 2012 the NRL revenue has gone from

NRL 2012 185m To 2016 391m adding 206m in revenue in 4 years.

AFL 2011 382m to 2016 569m adding 187m in revenue in 5 years.

NRL more than doubled its revenue in that time. The gap is closing boys.'

@fmcbill The AFL did actually do this 5 years ago. Great to see NRL heading down this path!

@JonnoSimpson @fmcbill NRL going further Jonno. Doing all themselves - app building etc - rather than JV with Telstra that AFL has.

And Ill say it again, its easy to boast about revenue growth when you are coming off a low base. The NRL is finally getting its revenues to where it should be, the AFL is already where it should be.

End of the day you can have all the growth you like, its the actual money at the end of the day that matters.

When i want Roy masters style posts Ill read Roy masters.
Hey Wookie, what's goin' on with all this Russian rubbish getting posted? I mean - it makes more sense than Freddo but looks a tad strange!!!! Maybe the former village idiot sabotaging.......lololololol.

so they build their own app. Thats hardly earth shattering. They still have to get people to download it, and all reports have the AFL waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in front on this.
Going by those figures you posted the other day , the ones released by Telstra. Showed there was just as many NRL matches being downloaded as AFL matches. More minutes doesn't mean more matches.

Less profits
Less revenue Growth
Less TV Viewers

Worrying times for the AFL!

And those figures released by Telstra I cant see anything that indicates anything. Its only natural that the AFL are going to have more minutes when there matches have nearly twice as many minutes as ours. I note the NRL's most popular game had more viewers/watchers than the AFL's

Yeh it's funny how minutes watched is fine
Yet when the TV deals were compared & RL was shown to be more valuable per minute ...it was scoffed at .
Nothing like spin

less profit but far more revenue. Our code owns a number of stadia around Australia. They are expanding in every state. They are pumping money into grass roots level. That's the reason we dont bank more.

Less revenue growth but far more revenue, and that gap will always remain given it's primarily due to attendance, sponsorship and membership revenue, which we continue to dominate.

Less accumulative TV viewers, but more viewers for most comparisons

Well over double the attendances, while you attendances plummet

Well over double the memberships,

Far more for sponsorship

Yeah, we're petrified

Attendance and membership that's about all you people have left.
