How do you think things would have been if you had one dominant footy code throughout Australia from the start?

Say Union, League and AFL organizations had all just been one sporting footy code.

Would it have been a set up similar to the NFL with divisions in every region or more like the UK with a relegation system?

It would have been an interesting sporting landscape. You would have had a team like South Sydney Rabbitoes vs Collingwood Magpies.
Or Western Force vs Brisbane Broncos.
Adelaide Dockers vs ACT Brumbies
And probably 40 teams in the comp.

I guess there would be no more fightclub forums over codes.

Well you'd probably have a forum like big footy where people are mainly interested in their own code discussing the politics and problems or their own game or hanging crap on other teams!

There will always be a sporting code that attracts the delisiomal loons of the world like League does & will have its own little forums like LU (Loons Unlimited) where they can discuss their conspiracies & but but excuses in the comfort of their tinfoil warpped bedrooms

It would suck.

Variety is the spice of life and we have the best on offer as is.

Meh if the do-gooders and sooks get their way, all we will be allowed to watch and play will be non contact soccer with no heading or tackling whilst using a deflated lettuce leaf as a ball

Hopefully I'll be long gone before the world bans everything fun and normal

Without a doubt. If Rugby League and AFL codes had never existed. The Wallabies would have been unstoppable.

Yeah I have a feeling it is only a matter of time before rules in contact sports become a lot stricter.
Already seen biff and shoulder charge banned.

Also, would there be a soo if there was one code for the whole country? Soo works in rl as the game is largely restricted to two states hence allowing an ongoing rivalary. If we had a whole country following would it be the same? We see AFL with a number of states and soo just doesn't work although I suspect this is more about culture (valuing the weekly games and premiership more) than it being more than two states. What do others think?

Many of those things that were banned was blunt thuggery

I'd hate to live in a one code country .
Not every body shape or skill set is suited to one .
Far better to have competition from different football codes for athletes

Great post.

Competition is good for everyone. It should keep administrations sharp instead of resting on their laurels. It should give people options as to what to play, what to watch and what to support. We're very lucky here that we have several viable options for folks who want to follow top level sport.
Yeah codes definitely try to lift their game in areas where other codes are ahead. I think the NRL is only realising this now with it's reserve grade expansion plans.

Thats the thing most of the world it is a one code country with Soccer being the only option be it to play socially and professionally, so all the big buggers in Brazil, Germany, Korea, Poland, Ghana and India don't have a full contact option like the Rugby codes, Gridiron etc.
