Ovals in India.

A bit of a search on the internet shows that India has lots of wonderful ovals on which they play cricket. What do they do with those ovals in winter? They have to be cared for and that costs money. They are just begging to be used for AFL style football. Perhaps they could call it "Indo-Pacific" football. My hope is that in time the Oval codes with the oval ball and red (and pink) cricket balls will conquer the ancient land of India.

Is cricket and nothing else in India. The sport is life there. AFL has no chance there. Football would be most likely the only winter sport with a presence there.

Any idea if Hockey is a winter or summer sport over there? Hockey for a long time was India's national sport.

No they follow Cricket. The AFL crowd is 99% white anglos at Melborne matches. Just like the players.

AFL a white Victorians game. No point trying to make out this mass of people from subcontinental asia are turning out in huge numbers to AFL. Is simply not happening.

Have you been to a game? Certainly not my observations but will pay more attention. Given there are many people from many cultures playing I find it hard to believe that it is a WASP sport. But anyway, some body types are suited to sports ... 100 metres, long distance, swimming for instance. I know when I watch I see Africans, Asians, Aborigines, European, Irish. Hell even an American. Not too many islanders I agree ... if any but I think they may be more suited to rl or ru. I know the AFL would love to attract this demographic.

Yeah I think you're right. Every time I go into my local Indian take away on Saturday night it takes ages to get the food cause they're all out the back watching fumbleball on the telly. And my mate Aarav told me his cousin in upper Pradesh saw one game on you tube and now he's hooked forever. Yep.....it's taking over.......lolololololololololol.
