With National TV ratings at 2.387 peaking at 3.65 mil
THE WESTERN Bulldogs' stirring six-point win over Greater Western Sydney on Saturday has proved a television ratings bonanza.

The preliminary final, which was broadcast by the Seven Network and simulcast on Fox Footy, was the second-most watched game in AFL history outside of a Grand Final.

A viewership of 2.387 million, peaking at 3.65 million nationally, tuned in across free-to-air and pay television to watch the Bulldogs reach their first Grand Final since 1961.

League chief Gillon McLachlan said the pulsating final at Spotless Stadium was "a game for the ages".

"I'd like to again thank our partners for their outstanding coverage of our game and Seven's broadcasts have reached more fans than ever, while the Fox Footy ratings placed the Dogs-Giants game as the most-watched match in the channel's history," McLachlan said in a statement.

Only the Grand Finals and the 2007 preliminary final between Geelong and Collingwood, which drew 2.47 million viewers, have attracted larger audiences.

The AFL's television ratings continue to go from strength to strength, with more viewers than ever before tuning in to watch this year's final series.

Friday night's preliminary final between Geelong and the Sydney Swans peaked at 1.892 million on the Seven Network.

The 2016 season culminates on Saturday afternoon at the MCG, when the Swans and Bulldogs face off in the decider.

Why would you post a figure (without displaying regionals) ???

I know even with regionals the AFL figure is still bigger..

But one of the teams ( Canberra Raiders are a Regional Team)

This was a Game People tuned into (especially to see the AFL giants LOSE) (including myself)

They don't get to beat us too often in big games
Now for the lols

Typical fumblers
Quote an article with the regionals for AFL included .
Yet nothing for the NRL regionals .
Agenda much sarge ?

Sadly for them the top 5 games this yr will be filled by 4 RL games ...as usual .

Yes may be true. But why post regs for one & not the other .
Fumblers have a long history of omitting parts that don't suit their agenda

because he quoted an article by TV tonight??? :blahblah:

FFS, the AFL regionals for these finals have been pretty close to the NRL regionals. That, together with our far higher fox ratings, are why our figures have been so much higher

& then he quoted the full numbers underneath.
If you quote the full numbers for one & not the other then you're obviously trying to mislead .
He's done it before ..but it's not surprising he continues to do it
Lol
But but but .
Honesty is not the best policy with you mob

well quoting the metro figures without adding the STV and regionals actually did our advantage a dis-service

FFS here we go again - can't refute the claim so not pick instead nothing misleading at all the second article is about it being a record - the interesting thing is no one is talking about the Storms viewership in Melb as opposed to GWS viewership in Sydney a team that by all accounts is virtually unsupported in Sydney got similar figures to a team close to 20 yrs in Melb!
