Post by leeroy*NRL* »

 Another Dream

VICTORIANS have long dreamt for Australian Rules football going global,
and now an international footy organisation believes it has found a set of rules that will make it possible.

Australia could field a side and play against minnow opposition, filled with amatures, expats & thanks to really pissweak international rep laws, where a player once took a holiday can open up a postal box, can the. Represent his country of choice !

Just like the nrl has done for its world cup!
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million
NRLOL $25 million

and she still changes your nappies as well!

These stories seem to appear when the southern hicks realise how small their sport is internationally .
The same old
"LOOK AT US
LOOK AT US" articles

It's funny as fuck

The desperation for some tiny minuscule bit of international recognition is pathetic .

They can't even get another country to play their sport and now they want AFL in the Olympics.

Lawn bowls would be more likely than AFL.

Of the 200+ countries in the world, just four have shown the cultural independent to develop their own code of football where it is the dominant code in the country of origin: England (soccer), United States (gridiron), Ireland (Gaelic football) and Australia (Australian Football).

I'm deeply proud Australia is one of them.

Our own dominant home-grown game of footy overshadows the lesser codes with annual attendances (around 7 million) greater than the sum of NRL, Super Rugby and A-League attendances combined.

I don't want to see our game played internationally. Nothing else defines the uniqueness of Australian culture more than Australian Football.

So, when you travel overseas and someone asks, "What makes Australia different to other countries?", you can tell them:

Don't say "Vegemite"! You'll look like an idiot!

Say AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL !!!

Is more Southern State culture than the entire country.
A bit like saying everyone in America is the same as they are in Texas.

Ummm, they're all English you dope, even Gridiron, it was Rugby first before they changed the rules.

Hence RL being native to England as well as Cricket, Union and Soccer as we know it now. The Chinese had their version of Soccer 800 odd years ago.

AFL is embarrassingly different though. Alot of Australians are ashamed of the sport.

THIS IS HOW I WOULD EXPLAIN AFL

You see it is a game that you still get a point with when you miss the goal.

And you can kick the ball at the goal as high or as low as you like because they got rid of the crossbar to make it as easy a possible to score.

And they throw the ball backwards into play like a bride does with flowers.

Can you imagine trying to tell someone from another country this is football?? Fair dinkum.
  =D> =D>
