Seems that this is a repeating theme in RL

I think its a problem in all sports. Some though just chose to look the other way.

I think team sports where scoring is low and infrequent may be more susceptible to rorting however there is always those bets based on features such as first goal etc. If it is found in rl to be true you csn bet those responsible have tried other sports as well.

Only sports of recent history in RL and soccer and the reason is the size of the teams - soccer 11 = half the side. RL 13 = over a 3rd of the side. Be unlikely for it to happen in AFL 18 = over a quarter, RU 15 = one third. Also RL and soccer blue collar backgrounds makes them more pre disposed.

This is of major concern not only to NRL but to sport in general in Australia. It appears this time the culprits are Australian. The last instance was with 3rd division football in Australia which was just plain weird. But that involved English players and Hong Kong???? betting syndicate.

It isn't surprising that it happened, as Fitzsimons wrote today that when you invite so much gambling into the game it is bound to happen. What is an interesting compared to the football one 3rd division players in Victoria where it happened are paid pretty much peanuts, so throwing $20k at them is a biggish deal. Throwing $50k at a NRL player who are pretty well paid is mind boggling stupid, plenty more to come out of this, I wonder of those involved may be in 'debt' to those gamblers and that was how they paid them back.

Meaningless, honestly, blue collar lol that is just funny.

For a start the biggest match fixing was the Black Sox scandal in Baseball, From memory that involved 6-7 players and a baseball tea has a 20 man roster.

There have been instances in American Football with god knows how many players on a team.

While I take your point - I think the size of a team is important - baseball not all the players maybe on the field at once - some don't get any time - again NFL not all the players on the field at the same time - AFL you would have to get to at least 8-10 players just too hard, also there is positions all over the field again too hard to organise - RL is one dimensional so 2 or 3 players could just about get you over the line. Soccer if you got at the goalie you could just about get the result you wanted.

Appears you don't really understand baseball. If it is 1 game you have a starting picture, several relieving pitchers and closing pictures in the bullpen, so unless you have the manager who will not change pitchers, then you need at least 3 pitchers, then you need infielders, plus as most games are called by catchers you also need them as a pitcher continually shaking off a catcher will look very sus.

Same as football, I assume you don't want to get caught, so it looks rather obvious for the keeper, they are one of the worse to have.

League with interchange you can't have only a few either.

What I have learnt to my confidence is that you would be terrible and fixing a game, which is a good thing :)

I don't think getting has even crossed the minds of the RL boys.

This whole story is getting more and more bizarre - 5 manly players allegedly involved and on Sths player, yet no hard evidence at this stage - me thinks the organised crime squad are shaking the tree to see which rotten apples reach for their mobiles. Might be a lot of rotten fruit on the ground in the coming weeks!
