Agree .
The ratings on Pay & FTA are ordinary.
Plus what commercial station will bid big when there is very very little advertising space during the game .

I reckon 55mill a yr would make them very happy .

IF Optus want it as part of the Soccer Channel, They would have to have a production / Filming crew for the games, so I think this rules them out..

Ch9 or Ch7 / CH10 maybe for the Friday and Saturday timeslots. ( but would it be worth the investment)

If they got 35mill last time,

I will agree and say 55mill as well

I see the soccer mob on forums like Four4Two like talking up the fact that a FTA commercial network will take over from SBS2 and everything will be rosy. Exactly which network would be interested with the woeful tv ratings the code attracts? SBS wanted to get out early but no network was keen in taking over. Any suggestions for which secondary channel will broadcast the games if Foxtel of course allows it?

Advertising drives TV $$$$$
Where do you advertise in a sokka game
Where are the natural breaks in play

If a commercial network like Ten picks it up, it would be the best thing that could happen to the A league as far as promotion. Nobody really watches SBS to start with. Is the wrong channel to promote a sport on.

Rugby Union has finally realised this with matches on 7two and One. Been some cracking Rugby 7s matches on recently.

For someone who does'nt like AFL. Rugby Union and Football are the next best things when the NRL is not on.

Yep that is the big thing hurting soccer and why FTA do not touch it.

No Advertising spots during the half's of play..

if I was a TV CEO I would forget the A League and chase hard for the Big bash.

At least $80 mil. (ie double) Bidding war between Optus and Foxtel, with foxtel desperate to hold onto the rights (as it is the A League subscribers that boost the rest of the football they offer) With probably Chanel 7 winning the push for the free to air on Saturday night.

Funny how overseas TV manage to find ways to advertise in a football match...........Just saying

the telecast is not worth $80 mill

I am trying to figure out how fox make money out of the A League if they were to pay $80 mill a season.

the SOO Series outrates the entire A League Season.

The way Western Sydney Wanderers have grown with supporters in summer I think it would be a smart long term investment for a commercial network to try to get the rights to the big city teams matches. Melbourne Victory, Western Sydney Wanderers etc..

Unless theres a significant bidding war, they wont get what they want. Optus had better want it bad.

Wookie the Aleague got 40m per year for aleague alone 4 years ago.

They have now added The FFA cup and the Wleague. There is a really good chance they will get about double what they got last time especially when you include inflation.

Then you have overseas tv rights that have not been discussed.

My prediction is about 70-80m a year which is impressive for a 11 year old league.

I love that comment, the FFA Cup matches are barely broadcastable LOL, based on what? The grounds they play on, oh yea I forgot you AFL types abandoned local grounds years ago. The FFA Cup continues to grow and every single football fan in this country loves it.
Clearly you simply don't get it.

Overseas rights are worthless? Really? Again something I am afraid you AFL types have zero concept about. Stick to what you know Wookie.
