OFTEN derided for having a smaller global footprint than other football codes, rugby league just took a giant stride into a whole new market.

A CANADIAN team have set their sights on securing a place in Super League after being formally admitted to the third-tier of the British professional game........

Already number 1 in Australia the question needs to be asked where to from here?

Yes, a larger number of viewers is a pretty good indication (up 20% this year Beau) - Certainly a better indication than crowds or membership figures how many pets deo you have beau? :_<> :_<> :_<>

Largest Grand Finals 2 of the past 3 years.

Biggest sporting event in the country for the past 3 years.

Made the most money these past three years.

How are your ratings going by the way?

The initiative came from Toronto-born businessman Eric Perez, who will become the club’s chief executive, and is financed largely by wealthy Australian businessman David Arygle, a 55-year-old mining investor.
Sounds like another Tinkler/Palmer situation I hope he's got plenty of spare cash because he's gunna need it!!! I bet he believes in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy! Hahaha :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<>

I very much doubt Roy Master would say that , in an online debate if it wasn't true.

Great news for the game in Canada. I like the name too. (Toronto Wolfpack). A bit like the Warrington Wolves in UK Rugby League.

Who knows. We could one day see them playing in the UK Superleague like the French.

larger number of viewers? The best rated game so far this year is an AFL game. A game that also rated better than any home and away NRL game last year, and probably any year.

Are you basing your view on SOO? :?>

Made the most money! :(/ Are you THAT stupid??!! They make about half what the AFL do. They just happen to spend less also. Tats probably the reason why they play in shit stadiums every week

Viewers Ie. people who watched Rugby league in the past 3/4 or 5 seasons compared to the people who watched AFL, and this year gap will get even larger.

League have made twice what the AFL have since the RLC came to office. They certainly don't have the expenses the AFL have. And I'm not sure how anyone could be stupid enough to deny this [-(

I'm not sure what stadiums have to do with this, shit or otherwise. But the Olympic Stadium , Allianz, Parramatta , Newcastle etc are certainly not shit stadiums. Brisbane ground would probably be the best in Australia. :?

You realise the people who watch sport each week are basically the same people? You have a longer season and more games available to watch, so your end of season tally means nothing from a popularity point of view.

Like for like the AFL is a more popular game on TV, as can be seen by the home and away comparison where the AFL has the highest rating game.

That ignores the massive advantage the AFL have in revenue, memberships and crowds

As for profit, it's irrelevant for non-profit sports. They make money to spend it, and the more they make the more they can spend on development and facilities. The NRL is poor in comparison

Okay, We will try this another way than. Who attracts the most viewers for a single match? Ooh that rugby league once again =D> =D> =D>

Your repeating yourself, zero facts, zero substance = zero credibility.

Profit is not irrelevant for any business and only someone as desperate as you, or as stupid as Meto head would suggest such a thing. that's right , they make money to spend on things!!! only 1 makes more money than the other.

what comes in - what goes out = what you can spend on things. enjoy that silver

the AFL attract the largest daytime audience, SOO the largest prime time audience. The AFL attract the largest fox audience  2 v 1

Profit is irrelevant as long as you meet your expenses. The AFL dont need to continue with huge profits because they have their nest egg. They now spend their revenue on projects to benefit the sport.

Tell me, would you rather earn $500 a year doing a paper round while saving $250, or earn 500k a year and save $10? Profit isnt relevant

Only problem is Pussy the NRL LOST money in 2015!
Australian Rugby League Commission chairman John Grant said the sport needs to improve its attractiveness to sponsors and business after the NRL slumped to a $18.7 million loss in 2015 despite record revenue.
http://www.afr.com/business/sport/natio ... 210-gmq60n

18 Mil in the red eh pussy. Whereas the AFL MADE money - 2.5 mil from 496 mil revenue.

Of dear there goes your second point.

In relation to TV viewers how does this compete against,
AFL twice the membership
AFL twice the crowds (NRL crowds have fallen 4 years in a row!!!!!)
AFL more in sponsorship,
AFL more in merchandising.

All Pussy has is a very dubious claim that TV ratings a greater - but just think we don't know WHO is watching or if at all (could be in the background or even tv left on - could be the same people - we don't know WHERE the tv box's are - they could be in low social economic areas only or affluent areas - we aren't told HOW people are selected all we have is assurances that can't be verified. If we did know these things then it would undermine the whole system. So tv ratings really is only one indicator you need more - the biggest club in Sydney is the Swans, in Melb, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart it is an AFL club - only Brisbane bucks the trend so all in all even on this KPI NRL fail and fail miserably!! Sorry pussy but it's just your delusion AFL wins by the country mile!

Get back on pace Swans, the NRL have made twice as much money since the introduction of the commission.
