After the success of the PNG Hunters, looks like Fiji are well on their way to following them into the Intrust Cup competition.
Will be great for the continued growth of Rugby League in Fiji.
Talents like Semi Radradra proves how good some Fijians are at the game.

Nice.

I can see at the top level one day a merger with a south pacific side entering the NRL based out of Fiji/Port Moresby/Elsewhere unless the Hunters continue to knock that door down all by themselves.

Costs may be too prohibited - why do they want to expand there but ignore WA, SA and Tas??

Fish where the fish are Swanny or we might actually fall into the same mistake the AFL made of throwing 200m away over a 5 year period....

Already have a WA side playing in the lower tiers as well producing juniors, if SA and Tas want to be part of the action, let them do it the same way from the ground up. If it takes 50 years, so be it, in the meantime, we'll put teams in our lower tiers that meet the criteria and let them grow into whatever club they can, be it NRL level or as a feeder to the NRL.

Auckland Vultures
WA Pirates
PNG (SP)Hunters
Fiji Whatevers 2017

It's already happening, somewhere somehow someone has put something into production and it's already happening, you can see right now where future expansion will come from just by looking outside the East Coast heartlands. QLD will still have a big say as they'll be getting one team more in the near future you would think.

Don't think your right as their crowds are increasing as are their membership - ignoring Australian states over 3rd world countries like PNG and Fiji well that might cost more - average wage of someone in PNG is only 15500 us - they only have 32,000 registered players in a country of 7 mil - as I said in another thread NSW has 4 codes the last is AF with 95,000 registered players (not Auskick), don't you think a poor country where the vast majority of the population don't play a sport (subsistence living doesn't allow it). Fiji only has 880,000, the average daily wage is only $10 a day, aren't you expecting too much. Wish you well but it doesn't look too crash hot from an economic viewpoint after all WA has 2.5 mil pop and SA has 1.6 mil, Tas has 500 k all without leaving Australia.

In reply to you Swanny, read Parra's comment above your one.

He is spot on.

As for a SA team.........................not in my lifetime.

Why do you continiously talk about a team you say doesn't exist .
You are obsessed with the MELB STORM ..a team from Melb yet you claim the NRL has not expanded outside QLd & NSW
How do you explain that .

You can either expand where the money is or for ever expand where it ain't. Going to 3rd world countries will only bring on very limited revenue and more than likely cause a war with RU who regard this as their turf (Fiji that is). PNG when one looks closer is decades of a professional team.

RU can do and side with who they like just like they have in the past.

Fiji will follow whatever sport they want to, it's not up to Union to decide they'll be the only show in town. RL is swamping Fiji atm.
