Which is the Most Popular sport in Australasia?

This was brought up in another thread & surprisingly when a RL poster claimed that RL was the bigger sport in Australasia a fumbler claimed different . UNsurprisingly he kept reverting back to Aust .
Australasia is not one country .
I listed the reasons why .
national teams that play regular test matches .
Pacific islands that play tests .
PNG ..Rl,is like a religion ...it's the national sport of PNG .
we have 3 countries playing in our domestic or state comps .
Fumblers feel free to list why you think AFLol is bigger .
There is no poll attached as last time I did a poll on which sport is most corrupt it was AFL 5 votes
RL 0
Bea logs on for the first time in months & the poll jumps to RL 6
Aflol 5 .
& that's with only about 3 regular Aflol posters on here .
Suss.

So I'll keep a tally after each individual states why they think their sport is bigger .

Not sure the point of this (is the statement) but
Can you define Australasia, I ask because as far as I am aware there is not 'fixed' definition so we should agree on that first

PNG potential is huge in the upcoming decades
N.Z have won world cups and 4 nations
pacific islands in general
UNION / LEAGUE
AFL
VIC /SA / WA/ TAS
AFL is doing pretty well for being popular in 4 states

Cricket is very popular in Australia and NZ.
RL - Gold
Cricket - Silver
Mexicans - Bronze
Similar result for Australia.

Your sport is the one girt by sea, ours was invented elsewhere, thus it can claim to be played and watched in more places than your sport thus making it BIGGER.

What needs to be clearly defined is 'popular'.
SOO rates 500k in Melbourne yet NRL has rated 9k this year in prime-time. So which is the true indication of popularity? Are 'three times a year' viewers considered real supporters?

You and the point really meet - he was illustrating the fact that you don't define what popular is? Is it participation, is it revenue, is it crowds or membership - what are you trying to prove?

it applies in your market too. many people follow the odd SOO gamebut couldnt be farked following RL in other formats. You can count all of the populations of PNG, AUS, NZ and Island populations together but youre assuming they all consider RL their preferred sport. That is a flawed assumption

No we are claiming far more follow RL in these places .
Seeing as RL is the national sport of PNG I'd say we have you covered easily there .
NZ lol .
While no where near as popular as RU over there the gap between RL & AFL is probably the same as between RU & RL .
Want to discuss Pacific islands next .
