I think you will find
the NRL will now expand trying to grab that extra ninth game to sell to fox

to get close to that 2.5bill figure.

LOL, sounding desperate now. How will you fund expansion? Writing was on the wall when Dave Smith gave Channel 9 all the best games plus Origin and representative football. Don't mess with Rupert lol.

You lot are truly screwed now. :<> :<> :<>

THE AFL has announced a $2.058 billion broadcast deal with Fox Sports, Seven Network and Telstra on Tuesday that ranks as the richest in Australian media history.

And the deal is for 6 years!

Telstra will pay about $300 million of the record deal over the six years, and broadcast AFL matches over its planned Telstra TV service and to handsets and digital devices, while Seven will pay $840 million in cash and $60 million in contra.

AFL 900million over 6 years for 7

NRL 925million over 5 years for 9

Rupert Murdoch has directly intervened and pushed the value of Australian Football League broadcast rights to unprecedented heights, agreeing for News Corporation to pay about $1.3 billion of a record $2.508 billion six-year deal the league has struck.

AFL 1.3Billion over 6 years all games simulcasting

Dont get to excited guys, the NRL only has to offer a 9th game + simulcasting to get 1 billion+ over 5 years for Fox.

The digital rights for the 4 Channel 9 NRL games are non-exclusive meaning that all 8 or 9 games can be resold to a subscription service.

NRL 1.9billion + international rights for about 250million and digital rights still to come over 5 years

AFL 2.5billion over 6 years which = 2.08billion over 5 years all gone sold.

Not taking anything away from this tv deal its a really good result but

wait for the fat lady to sing....

yeah somehow I dont think Fox are coming to the party on that 1.1 billion.

So you think Fox will just keep 4 games and loose subscribers?

Wow no sense at all.

He will offer simulcasting for all games if he wants to pick up subscribers and he will have to pay over 1 billion over 5 years to do it.

You can bump this later when the NRL deal is done.

800million from 9
1billion from Fox all games simulcast

200million for digital rights 4 of which are not exlusive to 9

150million for international rights.

I have a feeling you will be crying in a years time.

Unfortunately Murdoch is out of touch with Australian culture. He clearly knows little of the lopsided result of andy d's expansion, nor the abysmal downfall of the Essendon drug club, nor the abhorrent racist nature of thousands upon thousands of AFL fans

He's past his wiley best ol Murdoch. Clearly father time has caught up with him
