wookie, happy for you to delete my same thread, I don't think we need two of these. We can just use this one
Football in NSW
- Football 200,868
- AFL NSW/ACT 28,468
- Rugby League 96,041
- Rugby Union 40,685
Football has 22% more players than the other football codes combined

Re: League trails all professional football codes for sponsorship
wookie as you said in the other thread, the figure is lower than it could be because of the socceroos naming rights. I expect that will alter in the next few months when the world cup qualifications start again, I doubt it will be in place for the first round, but a four year deal which will then coincide with the 2018 world cup

Yes the NRL would be concerned
Current annual income of 350 million. .
& from 2018 it will be upwards of 600 million with a 2 billion plus media rights deal
FFAs revenue for 2014 was inflated by about 20 million due to a world cup appearance & selling one of their clubs ..so itll be back to around 115 million for the next few years
They will not receive much of an increase in their media rights deal .. if they get any increase at all
Meaning their income will stagnate
Plus theyre costs will rise .. Like the ARU , FFA has clubs Failing financially everywhere.. & also like the ARU .. short of losing money does not have the funds to be continually bailing them out
Whos shoes would you rather be in
It aint a hard choice folks

Re: League trails all professional football codes for sponsorship
I wont say that article is bullshit , but I do find it more than a little surprising . Articles 12 months ago were estimating that State of Origin brings in $20m worth of sponsorship alone annually. Meaning the other 80% only generates 8 million dollars in sponsorship
Home and Away, Tests, four nations. word challenge, club championship, nines, All Stars, Finals. Mmmh, I don't think so. >
Testra's would generate more than that much alone as the naming rights sponsor.
And our revenue is 3 times the figure quoted.

AFLs two clubs with highest drawing sponsorships
Collingwood $19,326,637,
Essendon - $17,690,850, (Essendon haven't won a final for over a decade)
it only goes to show how irrlevant minnows the NRLOL clubs are

No matter the scores, Origin a $100m winner

STATE of Origin is not just the pinnacle of the rugby league calendar, it is also one of the most lucrative sporting events of the year with the annual three-game series valued at close to $100 million.
A study into how much much State of Origin is worth has uncovered that one in four Australians will watch the upcoming series on television, which begins on Wednesday night between NSW and Queensland.
The Sunday Telegraph has also learned State of Origin is now one of the most marketable event in the country, returning an estimated:
- $40 million in ticket sales
- $40 million as a percentage of the NRL’s $1 billion TV broadcast rights
- $20 million in major sponsorship in just three matches
- $3 million in merchandise sales
- $3 million in corporate hospitality.
The staggering numbers indicate that State of Origin is no longer a game of football between two states, it’s a money-making machine.
It’s a significant status for the game considering the NRL boasts a presence in just three states: NSW, Queensland and Victoria.
The $40 million is a conservative figure after 4.232 million Australian viewers tuned into watch last year’s State of Origin decider, making it the highest rating rugby league match of all time.
Despite their struggles to retain jobs in Australia, Holden, the State of Origin naming rights sponsor, has outlaid a significant portion of the $20 million in sponsorship generated by the annual series.
VB, the major sponsor of the NSW Blues and XXXX, who are aligned with the Mar-oons, have also signed lucrative deals. Major insurance companies NIB and GIO are also official State of Origin sponsors with the Blues.
While ticket sales have been sluggish due to an increase in ticket prices, the matches are expected to sell out with a combined attendance of over 100,000 fans.
