New Pope Was A Member of Hitler's Youth?

Someone told me today that the new Pope was once a member of Hitler's Youth.
Surely the Catholic Church wouldn't elect such a person as their new leader and is it messenger of God.

He was a member but back then it was compulsory as his school enrolled him in the Hitler Youth. He and his family hated the Nazis and he deserted when he was drafted into the Army and was captured by the Americans after the war. He is not a Nazi.
