All this talk of the NRL expansion, whether it is in Queensland, Perth, NZ. Should they really be looking to expand and have a prisoners day release team? After all with so many convicts or ex cons in their ranks they could field a halfway decent team. Away trips might be an issue, the NRL would have to front up bail money and probably some extra seats on the plane and bus for the guards, but it could be done.

After all what else have these ex players/ex cons got, not like they can offer any meaningful place in society. The NRL prison league, opens up a whole new area for them.

A sokka fan putting shit on any other sport where crimes are concerned is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen.

and more to the point, the nrl could definitely field a team based out of criminals from the nrl....monaghan and ferguson in the centres, dugan at fullback. big hoppa on one wing with big wendell on the other...halfs combination of the johns brothers...tandy and luke burgess in the front row with mason, gallen and bird filling in at second row and lock

all thats missing is the hooker, lets just throw in that souths player that got done for bashing his missus the other year

i think i pretty much have the best off the top of my head...i have my criminal acts ranging from gang rapists, drug abusers, public urinators, animal molesters, wife bashers, gang affliation, alchoholics and even a match fixer

As for a prison team I think that's a fairly decent idea. I doubt the nrl would go for it due to marketing purposes but it would be great to give those locked up folks a chance to play. Perhaps a proper prison leage, somewhat similar to what I think they do in boxing, could be developed and the nrl could contribute some funds for the rehabilitative process.

I've no doubt at all one could make a team that would thrash the panties off the west sydney wanderers from a list of Aussie players who've had brushes with the law. It's just that Aussie sooker players brushes with the law aren't considered news worthy, and rightly so

But yeah, I'd start with Mark bosnich in goals. Wasn't he a coke fiend?

Meh, a couple of prison games have been played in the united states a few years back with the RIR introducing the game to the inmates, they loved it and so did the guards.

Rugby League and AFL and soccer and union and cricket and nfl and nbl and baseball and all sorts of others sports are played in some prisons, have been for a long time. Heck, they sometime have movies revolving around the prison sport for our entertainment eh?
