Les Murray tweets that the good ol' A U of S is now ranked 102.
It's probably easier to list who we are higher than.

The serious answer is yes we can go lower, and as long as we keep playing significantly higher placed teams and losing then we will go lower.

The is the price of playing Brazil, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Japan.

Where we do need to improve is when we face the teams from our region we need to be beating them. The quality of the teams that arrange friendlies against us would indicate that they view us as being a lot better than our current ranking.

I know having 200 plus countries playing your sport is hard for you to understand but that is Football, so toodles.

on the plus side, next qualification cycle for the asian cup and world cup will pull up some interesting matches at this rate as we won't be seeded and need to go through an extra round of matches against some of the big minnows of the region

anyone fancy a trip to cambodia or laos?

if we do well in the asian cup our ranking will jump back up to the mid 40's or higher, now if we lost all our matches for whatever reason, we could sink down to about 120...not a good look and it keeps our prospects at being a seeded world cup team down and out for a while but ultimately the rankings mean little outside of that. we would not only beat, but smash most of the teams above us

franky, our style of play is better now than it was when we were #14 in the world 5 years ago

i would of been going ballistic if we were this low back then because the socceroos were our sports' headline act, carried the tv deal, carried the interest in the game

but it has been superseded by the a-league which was the best thing to have happened.

Wah  wah wah wah

I'm upset because there's a massive gap between where I live and the local interest in the sport I love.

Porkchop? We don't care! And, based on the facts, I don't think our nation ever will! :(/

Actually one of Cos's better threads of late.

Australia ranked the lowest it has ever been, so its legit to ask if it can go lower.
And at 102/209 he's not too far off on the suggestion that it would be easier to list the teams not above us - he's wrong, but not by much.

Hence why both Sydney FC and myself actually took the time and answered in a meaningful way, but it appears to beyond some of the NRL types on here.

It is a fair question, and yes we can as has been said

While humorous, this post by porkchop isn't really accurate and definitive as to how pissweak and careless Aussie sooker really is.

And yes, we WILL go lower.
