The Sydney Swans and SCG Trust will this morning announce a long-term deal which will see them play all their home games post 2016 at the SCG.
The agreement will also include finals.
The Swans have called a joint press conference with the SCG Trust at 11am today, at which Sydney chairman Andrew Pridham, chief executive Andrew Ireland and senior coach John Longmire will appear, where they will announce the new deal.
This will end a relationship with the AFL and ANZ Stadium which began in 2002 when the Olympic Stadium was reconfigured after the Olympics to an oval shape to accommodate Aussie Rules and cricket.
The AFL has scheduled three games with big drawing clubs each year since 2002 plus finals.
The recent redevelopment of the SCG to increase it’s capacity to 48,000 will also mean finals from 2017 onwards will be played at the ground the Swans have called home since 1982.
The Swans’ move away from ANZ Stadium and commitment to the SCG could effect funding for the proposed redevelopment of the Olympic venue.
The Swans will play three games at ANZ Stadium next year plus finals, Essendon (Round 1), Geelong (Round 7) and Hawthorn (Round 16).
