AFL has actually existed longer than rugby league in Australia. Yet their sport has failed to be taken seriously in any other countries.

AFL fans try to belittle rugby leagues four nations... but at the end of the day the fact Rugby League has four competitive nations shows the international profile rugby league has. And competitive National teams is what AFL could only dream of at the moment.

Rugby League also has advantages over AFL in many overseas markets. North America for example has NFL and Union playing grounds already set up which Rugby League that can easily be played on. Mean while cricket is non existent there, so AFL don't even have field dimensions there to play on and grow their code in the U.S.

AFL will always be seen as a code that is too alien for many countries and seen as just a novelty.
League also has a culture that Americans would relate to. Big head on collision tackles, line breaks, cheerleaders, conversion kicks, trys which are called touch downs there. The very culture of Rugby League is what Americans would love yet AFL hates this culture. Further proof that Americans would never relate to AFL.

AFL just has a very dorky image that is hard to sell to overseas markets. Seems to even be a struggle to get the Kiwis on board for them.
Most Islanders are into sprinting hard and tackling hard which Union and League does. AFL is mostly jogging and wrestling, not really an Islanders style. Showed perfectly what I mean when Australian Islander Izzy quit AFL mid contract for less money!!

But yes, aside from that fact the AFL will always struggle o/s. But is like to add woeful management to the lists of reasons why. The AFL are desperately pouring millions of dollars into places like China and poverty stricken areas in India. Meanwhile they're also giving random competition junkies from o/s an all expenses paid trip here as a means to somehow promote the code when they return 6 months later to their homelands. it's a farce and they could work and spend harder on more local areas. Nz has a chance, albeit minuscule. The bortherb territory is a promoters dream. If they put a team in darwin and funded it they would have Liam jurrahs coming out of the bush by the bucket load, it'd be bloody awesome.

But no, the AFL couldn't give a shit about nz and darwin or the tiwi Islands. Me suspects the fat cats down at AFL hq just want the promo trips further abroad in the sake of "promotion"

Why would Americans care about you're boring grind of a sport when they can watch tougher and more entertaining sporting competitions which actually involve skill- NBA, NHL. NFL. MLB, MLS. Hell 99% of Americans don't know what Rugby League is. No comparison to NFL is necessary because NFL actually contains skill, thought and far more strategy.

AFL is the number 1 code in Australia, and a far superior sport to arse sniffing (this coming from a 'sokkah fan'). :D

USA actually competes in both Rugby codes world cups against Australia. Meanwhile AFL don't even have a team outside Australia they can play against lol =D>

What I said is all factual, Rugby League is streaks ahead of AFL internationally and it has a lot more potential to gain a following in North America than AFL. The facilities are already there and Americans would relate to Rugby League culture much more than AFL due to more similarities.

Ermmmmmm, all the other footy codes played in Aus were played in PNG before RL came along, the same story in Australia and NZ.

PNG was under German control for years.
