ETIHAD Stadium will host the Western Bulldogs’ clash with Fremantle on the same day it could have potentially housed 50,000 fans for the A-League grand final.
As revealed in the Herald Sun on Tuesday, the AFL has blocked Football Federation Australia’s attempts to pre-book either Etihad or the MCG for its May 17 grand final in the event that Melbourne Victory or Melbourne City qualify to host it.

The AFL’s 2015 fixture, released on Thursday, contains Friday, Saturday and Sunday games at Etihad Stadium on the weekend of May 15-17 and Saturday and Sunday games at the MCG.

Lmfao! Demolished. How weak does your code look, when we can do shit like this.

Actually it makes the AFL look pretty silly. a Few things

1) Have to assume Melbourne make the grand final and earn hosting rights, and still a long way to go, but

I can't imagine the Victoria government would be too happy about losing all that money and exposure, to host a game that will probably get 20k

Looks rather petty from the AFL, and Etihad would be very unhappy with the situation.

I think if you read the statements from the AFL, they were initially asked to keep the week prior free, which they did. But with the changes in schedule they say they weren't told and Etihad also say they weren't told. AFL said it was too late to change things, especially since the reconfiguration of fixture due to cricket World Cup.

its fine cause neither melbourne team will go that far :<>

this is clear retaliation from their side after gallop spat at AFL's offer of co-promoting the giants with the wanderers

this queensland mentality of begging, leeching and getting handouts from other codes has spread into the southern states ever since the lions started rolling in debt and is quite disgusting :puke:

The AFL has to look after itself and its teams, everyone knows Victoria is AFL and esp around that time of year, I can understand why they would book etihad stadium. Any booking for the MCG that day?

its actually
the big difference is in NSW/ Federal the government bank rolls the stadiums, for local political votes & because the NRL has no hope in hell in ever paying for any of it.
the NRL is like a bum on centrelink.

the Victorian government are a bunch of tightwads when it comes to stadiums!
Etihad was built with private investors with the AFL due to own it in a number of years, so they are pretty much the controlling party as well as being the main regular money spinner for the stadium.
the MCG is slightly different, is slightly different, its owned by the government & operated by the MCC. but the Victorian government puts stuff all money in to the venue. Most of the money for the upgrades comes from private identities, the AFL pretty much controls the stadium in the winter & cricket in the summer.

so no doubt there will be conflicts for years to come between the AFL and A league, for the use of Etihad stadium, or even the MCG

on the bright side of things, with the growth of the A league, is shows the majority of the games in melbourne will have outgrown the AAMI stadium, leaving it left for the NRL. meaning it will turn in to a dust bowl & never see the stadium being close to half full ever again

The only club in any code to own it's own stadium with a capacity of 20k in Australia is the CRONULLA SHARKS.

hehe.

That is an issue as well, I am led to believe that Etihad existence blocked AAMI being built larger, just like ANZ blocks any western Sydney stadium being larger than 32-35 k. Going to be interesting when AFL. Takes ownership of Etihad
