Nrl... In trouble?

With crowds down on last year ... And already at very low numbers, and TV ratings also reported to be down on last year, what does this mean for the nrl. Added to this a reluctance to spend money and you have to ask if everything is okay with the nrl. A positive is it's dominance of the Sydney and to a lesser extent Brisbane markets which are major markets, however the AFL continues to consolidate its presence there and soccer continues to grow nation wide; a likely concern for both AFL and nrl.

Thoughts?

the NRL has reached its peak and will continue to dwindle. there is a reason why news ltd sold the league off.
all the free press in media television and print it game the NRL now it downs have that, & look at the ratings & crowds fall away

their messiah david smith has been vocal all year about needing to lift the crowd levels & people by memberships.
well that hasn't worked

Dumb thread started by a moron who would rather make up usernames to agree with himself because most normal people don't.

Sunday football will probably go live next season, that's one big problem solved already, oh, and the game will kick off later meaning fox can still show their live game until it's conclusion at around 3:30pm.

Not much, it's only going to be a 30 min difference all up if they kick off at 3:30 hour if at 4. Don't think it'll be a 4 pm kickoff, they might have a few problems if a few injuries happen and they end up in a Golden Point finish that goes for 10 mins.

Pretty bloody bad if they whinge and whine about a 30 min delay for a live game on sunday, what hope if they do?

soccer has already smashed nrl in melbourne to pieces, taken a comfortable #2 in perth and adelaide as well

with sydney and brisbane growing

we will be the #2 code eventually. no doubt homie!

who cares of the state of play, it will be like the cricket. its 6.00pm nine will cross straight to its flag ship product the news.

whinge, whine and beg & make endless excuses abut your shitty little ratings, 5 years time the NRL will be irrelevant

RL is gone.

Hows that working out for you fumblers .

Sokka fan bois...The Sleeping giant is awakening & going to take over...LOL that gets trotted out just about every yr for the last 15 yrs....LOL.

Yes, I do agree with you here crspper, many a time the death knell has been sounded on rl yet it is quite resilient. I don't think it is going anywhere fast and the last broadcast rights deal would suggest that too. I think expansion to Perth is a given and I think the nrl have the structure at the top now to do it well. I do think you will see the Perth team given concessions though .
