SANFL Round 4, Tips and Previews
North Adelaide vs. Sturt @ Adelaide Oval
This much should be an absolute cracker, both teams finished last season right next to each other and I’m sure there is no love loss from North with Sturt knocking them out the finals last season. North have started the season beautifully and are looking to have there complete structure up and ready, they have only played against lower ladder teams but definitely looked impressive doing it. Sturt had a great win over Port but fell over against the Eagles and will certainly be looking to make up for the disappointing loss. A win in this match will do a lot for either teams confidence and will really get them set for a great season, North Adelaide have a very hard 4 Rounds as ahead they have Sturt, Centrals, Port and the Eagles. Any game, which North can win, they would be happy with, but im sure they would at least like to win fifty percent of these four games.
The Double Blues will be looking to get there structure through the midfield working again like it did against Port two week prior and the big ground will certainly suit there run. This match will definitely be a battle of the midfield as North’s is in great form and getting the job done for them week after week. Coming off the by is a big thing for North and it will be very interesting to see whether or not they are able to continue to play well and keep form. The Roosters can generally bounce back after the bye but history does show that teams still struggle.
This match will be a real fight out and it will be important to stay strong down back, with Chambers and Hargraves at either end it will be a real shootout. Whichever team can hold the forwards the best will go a long way to winning this match, Hargraves is in great form aswell. North Adelaide will be on a mission to get back some respect from the Double Blues, and Sturt will not want to give it to them… expect this match to get heated. Sturt have got a very good record under lights and Adelaide Oval and if they get a lead, it will be very hard for the Roosters to peg it back and this is certainly something they should avoid happening.
Will be a very tight tussle of a fight, I expect the final margin to be within a couple of goals.
Norwood vs. South Adelaide @ Noarlunga Oval
Norwood have been very disappointing with the performances over the past year, and have continued that last week against West giving up a strong lead. Norwood’s performance in the forward line has gone a long way to stuffing up there matches and need a real target to give it to. If Norwood can use a tall which is good at overhead marking that could work, but its going to be hard to keep scoring enough goals continuously and consistently across the whole season. South Adelaide just coming off a home ground win against the four time premiers Central Districts would have done there confidence a world of good and they’ll believe in themselves now. The only thing in which the Panther need to watch out for is generally after a great win against a topside, they come out the next week and play atrociously.
One thing in which the Panthers done well against the Dogs is the way in which they used the wind, this is something in which they should certainly focus on doing as it seemed to do the job against such a strong team. If they target there main forwards by bombing it in there they should do good, if it can work against such a strong team like the Dogs then why not continue doing it. If Norwood can play the wind then that may or may not work to there advantage depending on whether or not they stick a tall overhead marker in the forward lines. The main thing in which Norwood need to worry about is getting there structure working fluently early in the season and not having such result as what cost them getting the spoon in 04.
South Adelaide should run down the Redlegs if the play like they can, but the Panthers are so inconsistent that they could do such things as losing these matches.
The Panthers to win, by 5 goals
Woodville West Torrens vs. West Adelaide @ Woodville Oval
The Eagles have been very impressive still and are starting this season as they did the last, It's important that the Eagles can beat the strong teams early and regain the confidence that they can challenge the Dogs... or the same thing will happen again. West Adelaide havent totally up to scratch but won an important match against Norwood at Adelaide Oval, They were great coming back from the deficet but it's whether or not they can produce good enough footy against a quality side like the Eagles. The Eagles completly controlled there match against Sturt using there shots on goal with success, they were very acurate and got the hard ones. It's most likely Stevens will still be in for the Eagles and this week they'll be looking for a bit more of an effort from him, it's important that he can kick these goals as a forward and help out.
West Adelaide are certainly capable of good football it's just they do not do it on a consistant basis, it seems as if when someone gets injured that it effects the whole sides performance and they do not play well. They really need to stop putting the game down to just a few players in there team and all give it a red hot go, otherwise they will continue to struggle. The Eagles are a much more fast paced running team and West Adelaide are going to need to slow the game down and expose the Eagles weakness of direct kicking football.
The Eagles are just too strong for West Adelaide, West can produce the footy to beat them... it just depends which team turns up. The Eagles by 7 goals.
Port Adelaide vs. Central Districts @ Alberton Oval
Port Adelaide are in quite good form at the moment, just going down to the Double Blues woudl still give them confidence that they can beat top sides and be one themselves. The Dogs would be very disapointed with there loss to the Panthers and will certainly be looking to make up for what happened, they'll go into the match very hyped and wanting to win which will make it a very heated game. Port Adelaide generally play there best footy against the Dogs and previous results show this, they'll be looking to snatch away a win and get the early mental advantage over them. If the Dogs cannot manage to win this match it will hurt there confidence alot, i think this is a must win match for them... long way to go in the season but it would certainly help to back up a loss against the Panther with a win over the Magpies.
The Magpies will have firm in there minds the fact that they beat the Panthers at home in Round 1, and take it in as a mental advantage thinking if they can beat the Panthers... then they can beat the Dogs. The Gowans boys were roughing up players last week and they will need to continue showing some muscle this week aswell, it's important to take the early physical advantage in the match aswell. It should be a great clash and if Centrals can find form, even better.
Will be a very tight match, The dogs by a couple of goals.
