German sports channel sportdigital has acquired the broadcast rights for two further international football leagues.

From the 2014/15 season, the pay-TV channel will show live games from the Australian A-League and the Japanese J.League.

The rights for football from Down Under were secured until the 2016/17 season. The A-League in which former Bundesliga player Thomas Broich has won three championships with Brisbane Roar will kick off in October. The channel will show one match per week live.

The rights for the Japanese J.League were also obtained until the 2016/17 season. The current season started in March. From now on, sportdigital will show one game per round live starting with the match Urawa Red Diamonds vs. Sanfrecce Hiroshima on August 16 at 10.55 CET.

In total, sportdigital will screen international football from 12 leagues in the 2014/15 season. The rights stock include the Championship and Capital One Cup from the UK, the Scottish Premiership, the Portuguese Primeira Liga, the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, the Eredivisie from the Netherlands, the Premjer Liga from Russia, the Copa do Brasil from Brazil and the Copa Libertadores from South-America.
great deal for soccer in Australia. Our overseas broadcast portfolio currently includes : China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, India, New Zealand, Italy, UK, USA, Mexico and now Germany. China and India broadcast all games live but the rest are varied from 2-3 games a week to just 1 with a bunch of replays and/or highlights .....but it's still amazing exposure for our league :)

wat

rights being bought = more money being funneled into the game. why would they have bought the rights in the first place if they knew there was no demand for it

i understand having your league broadcasted overseas is still pretty foreign for many people on this board....
