Yep SOO is sucking the life out of the domestic comp - it is quickly becoming the main event with the NRL irrelevant!

so
double what the midgets will draw this weekend against carlarlingmond eh :(/ :(/ :(/

how would the Thuns go with most of their better players missing
like that bald over rated twat Gerry Hairnet Jnr
& play on a Monday night against another team missing all their stars
probably a lot less then 6500

ah well
the NRL will be comforted on Wednesday night when the biggest game of football played this year to date will be an RL game , beating the previous biggest ... another game of RL &.... safe knowing the only game that will be bigger in 2014
will be another game of RL ... an Origin decider

our nations biggest sporting events
is a fumbles & feebles free zone ................. :(/ :(/   :_<> :_<> :_<>

I love the double standards of the Foamers.

SOO is having an impact on the NRL...
Yes all RL fans know that .

Then when a RL fan says SOO is the biggest sporting event in this country,& the huge benefits make up for the impact on the NRL season.
The fumblers ..
Waaaaa Waaa Its an exhibition game ...waaa waaa its meaningless ..waaa.waaa.

You mob are hilarious.
The rampant jealousy is great comedy..
Keep it up.

That's right keep telling yourself that all the bad AFL followers will go away - common Polly give us something new this is the 10th time you've posted the same comment - I can't help it that you react to our opinion - I keep saying that if you enjoy it it should be enough!!! But obviously our comments hurt because you keep reacting! Hahaha isn't that a pip!

Was an astonishingly low crowd. The Titans played the Storm on a Monday during origin last year, and that fixture drew more than double the number of people (13,044). They're in a spot of bother up there. Having a look at the League of Titans website, seems disatisfaction with their head coach and the club administration is off the charts.

Cartwright has one of the worst records in the nRL, yet seemingly has tenure up there for some reason, and the idiot that almost drove the club into bankrupcy still hasn't left (he's now in charge of the football department of all things!). They had the market to themselves for 4 years, were operating in a heartland market, had genuine community support for a team, a wiz-bang new stadium, and played finals in their third and fourth seasons, and still their support actually fell away. And all this before the Suns rolled into town.

Image

The COE debacle, far more than simply endangering the club's bottom line, drove a wedge between the club and Gold Coast tradies and their families, and it seems like that rift still hasn't been repaired. None of the usual remedies for improved support seem to work:
  • New stadiums (see Port, Crows). When Robina opened in 2008 the Titans experienced just a 0.6% increase in crowds. Since the stadium opened the Titans have averaged a 7% decrease in crowds each year (-11% in 2009, -7% in 2010, -14% in 2011, -7% in 2012, -3% in 2013, -1% in 2014 so far). The stadium is 7 years old and cost $160m. They're not getting a new one in a better location any time soon. They're stuck there.

on-field success. They played finals in 2009 and 2010, yet both years had lower crowds than the previous year. This year for a brief time they were atop the ladder, but it had no effect on crowds. There are no bigger bandwagoners in Australian sport than Queenslanders (except Port Power fans, obviously), and if they won't jump onboard during successful periods, you're in strife.

Promotion. This year they've cut the price of memberships (one of the biggest complaints about the club), and have allowed kids in for free (a great promotion), and yet crowds are still down despite these smart initiatives. They recruited excitement machine Jamal Idris a few years ago, and whilst normally a big star recruit gets people through the turnstiles (see Buddy, Ablett), he had no effect.
All of this in isolation would be bad enough, but there's the inevitable comparisons with the other team in town, the Suns. They're just begining a period of likely on-field success and finals. Their crowds are on the up (three of their top ten crowds ever have been this year, with Geelong and Collingwood still to come). As my old friend Raiderdave likes to say, perception is reality, and the perception on the gold coast is rapidly becoming that the Suns are in vogue and the titans are yesterday's news. It's a hard thing to turn around (not impossible, see Port), and the current Titans administration have shown themselves to be less than up to the task.
