Oh dear, hard to argue against the Raiders status as a "basket case" wouldn't you agree?

This basket case of a franchise that was once the mighty, all-conquering Raiders is but a shadow of its former self. The average crowd this season is just 11,000 (that sadly includes away games) and the player list is looking skinnier by the second. The club is 14th on the ladder.

Yeah the 4 AFL teams in nsw and qld with all the hand outs to help keep them competitive, all the great times on prime time FTA TV, yet not a single one of them can get the viewing figures from their local community like the raiders do weekly on FTA TV in the Capital.

weren't News Ltd the mob that bought the Raiders in 1996 for about 4 Million dollars
then sold it back to the same organisation in 2002 for $1 , because they thought it was worthless & it was costing them n arm & a leg to run.

the same organisation now turns over 70 million plus a year & posts annual profits of 3 million dollars plus

we have a few issues to sort out .... many clubs do
our team of the late 80's & 90's was a legendary team casting a massive shadow over the modern Raiders
one of the finest to ever take the field in a Rugby League game ... we're still suffering the hang over of that great era
they'll never be a team like that one ever again
but we have an army down here waiting for some genuine success
not a finals appearance every 2nd year
but a team that can challenge for the title & it appears its still a ways off

but it will come

many AFL clubs dont own pokes, the suns dont, swans dont & GWS are looking in to it.
the point i keep trying to make you need at least 30 million to run an AFL club, you can run an NRL club on 12 to 15 million
as in the article i posted earlier, the raiders run on 12 million and still cant come up with the money.

AFL clubs yes have pokes, but no near to what the NRL clubs to. all AFL clubs generate 30 to 50plus million before poke revenue.
NRL clubs cannot even raise the basic 12 million to 15million required aside from the broncos

hence all their clubs own numbers of league clubs and are in millions of debt.

there is a huge difference between AFL and NRL revenue
6 AFL clubs earn't more in just sponsorship dollars, than what the raiders did a in total revenue eg sponsorship, appearance fees & tax concessions from the ACT government & NRL distribution money, ticket sales/ gate recipes & membership
