Who in there right mind would fork out for Foxtel - high Deffinition - every match live - every match add freeand then watch FTA?
Yet another arse kicking for the AFL....but but but sore.

Everyone that owns foxtel would be watching the game on Foxtel. The FTA viewers would be people who don't own Foxtel. So Foxtel numbers would't be affeced.

but what if they dont own foxtel they would be watching the game on free to air?
the AFL as well will run multiple games at similar times that both broadcast on fox as well as including the game on free to air, the NRL hardly does this.
next claim

Any proof? I have foxtel but watch channel 7 because my Foxtel set isn't HD - I watch Foxtel when the game isn't telecast - you stupid!

They dont have foxtell. Therefore they don't take part in this argument on foxtel ratings.
Counteracting that argument on ovelaping games. It gives a person a chance to switch over in the breaks. Most people only watch a few games week and, unless there team was playing GWS they wouldnt watch them in a month of Sundays . Now the West Coast supporter, quarter/halftime has seen 20 or so minutes of a game he would never have watched and the GWS supporter would have seen 20 minutes of something he never usually wouldn't watch.

If, as the NRL does, the games were exclusive to foxtel, then the take up of Foxtel would probably be greater than if they were simulcast. So numbers probably are affected by the broadcast arrangement, particularly when you factor in the guaranteed local broadcasts in the AFL agreement.
Further, NRL timeslots are exclusive with no overlap. AFL games that overlap foxfooty broadcasts are shunted to foxsports1 or foxsports3 where, for some odd reason, people with foxtel and foxfooty subscriptions fear to tread - its bizarre, but ratings for games on foxsports1 and 3 are well down on games on foxfooty (the same is true of games shown on 7mate as opposed to channel 7 for the AFL). In fact, if we took those games out of the equation - something i might play around with today - id bet that the other 8 games a week would average out higher than the NRL offering.
A person would be much more likely to take up a subscription package that allowed them to see every game , than a subsciption package (for the same amount of money)
that allowed them to see just 75% of matches
The AFL are the ones getting all the enticements from Fox. Your own channel 24hours , 7 days a week.
