Looking at the club which drew the lowest crowd in each of the past 11 years
There are three culprits that stand out - WT, Panthers and Storm.
Forgetting the Storm(that's easy) then it would make sense that WT further merge with the chocolate soldiers.

On that statistic alone it would, but when the wider issues are considered I would say it would not.

If a merger was on the cards for Penrith, it could only be with Parramatta. And that is an "if".

Wouldn't be a merger and Penrith have stated this before and so did Balmain years ago in regards to Parramatta. It would be a Parramatta take over and that's it.

That's what mergers are - euphanisms for takeovers. WT looked like a true merger - for a while at least.

surely penrith dont need to merge. apparently they are the biggest sporting club, Australia number 1 sporting brand

Penrith Panthers named the most valuable sporting brand in Australia

PENRITH Panthers have officially been named Australia's most valuable sporting brand for 2013 in a study across all codes.

The Top 20 Most Valuable Australian Sports Brands for 2013 was released by Brand Finance and Landor Associates, with the Panthers' worth being ranked at $46.2 million.

Coming in at a close second place is the Collingwood Magpies at $39.1 million, leading the way for the AFL clubs on the list.

beating, the Collingwoods, Essendons, West coasts, broncos, etc

I thought Southport was worth $98 million.

I heard that also, Cos789.

Penrith RLFC is not worth that amount. Include the Penrith Panthers franchise on the other hand and it would. This would appeal to Parramatta and I don't think that a takeover would result. Penrith would make it a part of the deal that the Panthers franchise be shared. I think the Eels would accept that as long as all the home games were played at Parramatta. That would be reasonable as I think we would all agree that Parramatta Stadium is the better home venue of the two.

Well maybe. It largely depends on the Panthers membership. Unlike Balmain I'm not sure of their loyalty. I suspect that GWS is having an effect on them and they should be fighting back.

Well something has to be done with Cronulla, Penrith, WT and Parramatta having shit crowds and followings it is an embarrassment to Australia to call this an elite competition!!!

Yep.
Smell the fear..
Teams lined up to get into the NRL.
WE have international teams at NRL & State level.

AFLL have Tasmania to expand to,while propping up basket case teams ,

I know which sport has the brighter future.

Teams lining up to get in to replace the ones going out the back door!!! What bids from Queensland only had two out of five clubs fold in the last 20 yrs - won't be long before that figure gets worse!!!! And NSW bring in another Sydney team previously booted out to replace Penrith, WT, Cronulla, Eels and Raiders when they all fail!!!!
