Shame about the Sunday night game being over at half time. Still reasonable ratings. Sunday night football a success?

Crows vs Swans on Saturday on 7mate outrated the Golden Slipper (one of Sydney's biggest horse races) in Sydney. Nice to see Sydney's sporting priorities.

The season started earlier than usual meaning a number of Friday night rounds were shown into Perth during working hours. That wasnt comparable to last year

The AFL in Melbourne outrated the NRL in Sydney comfortably last night

Given there was no Perth team involved they held up pretty well for a game at 5.30 on a weeknight, and on 7mate

There's no doubt the AFLs Friday night broadcast is at a disadvantage with their two biggest markets having a 2-3 hours difference. That's why the AFL catch up and eventually pass the NRL on Saturday and Sunday when Perth viewers are home to watch Melbourne games and not at work.

The NRL have an advantage on Friday nights TV broadcast because they use two games to target their entire market which is in two states in the same time zone.

If the AFL targeted Perth Adelaide and Melbourne with separate games during the one telecast you would see a better comparison

Well entire market was an over-exaggeration. However only the NRL can engage 2m people with the one game. They get great ratings when the broncos play, which is hardly surprising given the one team represents such a large proportion of their heartland. Kills them with crowds though when they only get 365k attendance per year and a smaller city in Perth get 773k per year.

Actually.. The Essendon vs Collingwood game in 2 weeks is on the main channel in QLD..

No idea why that is the only game we will get on the main channel, considering a brisbane match would out rate it... Well.. Maybe not considering our form.
