Whether you follow RL or not seeing Cameron Smith and his kids at the press conference to announce him sighting with the Storm as a one club player made me think what a top bloke he is! I know this is a fight club and that we have to be somewhat polarised in our views but his obvious love for family shone thru very clearly - his dedication to his club and his commitment to his code makes him someone we should aspire to be like - What a top bloke!

Ultimate League: It's not too late to sign up for our Fantasy NRL game
Australian captain Cameron Smith is set to surpass Darren Lockyer's record for the most NRL games after signing a new four-year deal with Melbourne Storm.

Smith, who has knocked back a massive $6 million offer from the Broncos, confirmed his decision via a press release from the club on Tuesday morning.

"There were times when I thought the best decision was to go back to Queensland," Smith told Fox Sport News.

"I wanted to play in Melbourne, and my wife was extremely happy to stay."

After equalling Matt Geyer's record for the most appearances by a Storm player in last Saturday night's epic 23-22 defeat of Manly, Smith is now within sight of Lockyer's record of 355 NRL matches.

The 30-year-old will surpass Geyer's record when he plays his 263rd match for Melbourne on Saturday night against Penrith at AAMI Park, putting him just 92 games behind Lockyer's mark.

After deciding to continue playing until the end of the 2018 season, he is also set to pass Lockyer as the most capped Queensland Origin player.

Assuming he plays all three matches of this year's series, the Maroons captain will equal Lockyer's record of 36 Origin appearances for the Maroons.

Smith, who has been at the Storm since being signed as a 19-year-old in 2003, has played his entire NRL career under Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy, who is contracted to the club until 2017.

Smith has been considering his future since leading the Kangaroos to victory in the World Cup final at Old Trafford on November 30.

Before Christmas, it appeared he would accept the lucrative offer from the Broncos as he and his wife wanted to return to Brisbane to raise their young family.

However, it is understood they missed Melbourne during a holiday in Queensland and did not want to leave the Storm despite talk that the deal with the Broncos was "over the line".

Your an idiot!
Can't you put aside your contempt for AFL fans to pay respect to an amazing athlete who I think ANYONE would aspire to be like?
